I was just wondering what sort of paints apart from Games Workshop Citadel brand work on plastic miniatures. |

A lot of people like the Vallejo brand, not sure where you get it though. |

Theoretically any water-based acrylics are suitable for miniatures, but the cheap craft paints are not very good for our purposes. Look for something that says it is intended for miniatures and you probably won't go wrong. Like whafrog said, Vallejo is popular, and I have had very good experiences with it. Vallejo paints also mix well with Citadel ones. -- Pasi |

I'd definitely recomend Vallejo They are cheaper, bigger and better (IMO) than citadel paints |

GW and Vallejo paints are definitely the top in the market. I like GW for colours and Vallejo for inks. |

ElfLover wrote: Thanks all. Do you know where I can get Vallejo and how much it costs? Depends where you are. In the UK I'd recommend Wayland Games, and in the US the Warstore. Each colour will run you about £2 or $3 if you buy them singly. Vallejo has several lines of paints: Game Color, Model Color, and Model Air (which is intended for use with airbrushes). You can use them all together though (and indeed together with other acrylic paints such as GW), so just get a good basic selection of colours that appeal to you. I think they make very nice paints. |

Necromancing somewhat... (necromancing is when you restart a very old thread (probably best to start a new thread in the future)) Anyways, a primer is basically a base coat which helps the paint adhere to the model. |

so primers are not that useful then. |

Post subject: | Re: Painting |
Yes, they are very useful, I'd never want to paint a model without first applying a primer. |

No primers are essential. I always prime my models in black paint but other people use white/ grey etc. all about personal preference. |
