First off, I wasn't sure if this should go here, or in the suppliers' forum, but someone with power can decide that.

Anyways, I'm wondering if anyone has ever used liquitex or Golden mediums. Specifically their drying retarders or flow improvers. After getting the free painting videos from MWG, I've rekindled an interest in trying out wet blending and glazing. I went to my local Michaels (a craft store) and checked out what they had. I noticed that the liquitex retarder said it dried shiny, a big no-no. The golden one didn't say either way, but I decided I could wait and see if anyone here has experiance with these products.

I'm thinking of going for Liquitex/Golden rather than Vallejo or Reaper, as I can get much more product for less $$'s. I can also get them locally rather than having to pay for shipping.

Two things I will never go cheap on are paints and brushes. Though I cannot speak to the brand you are asking about I can tell you that the Vallejo products for wet blending are second to none and are well worth the extra couple bucks you might save. If you're looking to do high end techniques, you're going to need high end supplies.

Yes definitely, excellent results, particularly with the retarder for wet blending.

Whats wet blending?

Don't use Golden-they can cause cancer! Liquitex is really good, I use a lot of theur stuff!

@ Bilbo: wet blending is a technique used by really pro painters, consisting in mixing togehter different colors on the model itself to get super smooth blendings!

HAve you used any of the 'hobby' brand mediums, or only liquitex? I guess what I'm ideally looking for is somone who has used both, and can say whether the hobby brand ones are actually worth the premium.

Can you but liquitex in the UK?

I have just started using Vallejo GLAZE Medium, getting great results blending dark colours on to medium colours. Still trying to master light on to medium colours.
Only cost £2 for a small bottle and will last for ages.

I'm also using vallejo glaze medium and its excellent. Check my WIP Cave Drake and you will see the spines at the back of the head from purple to white. This was my first ever wet blending attempt which I think worked fairly well.
