Hey all :)

I'm looking for some advice on techniques that can be used to achieve a realistic fabric 'texture' on minis, like woven cloth. Here are some examples of what I mean:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/333367?browseid=8382276

http://www.coolminiornot.com/348838?browseid=8382219

http://www.coolminiornot.com/347549?browseid=8382219

http://www.coolminiornot.com/293021?browseid=8382219

So far, my initial thought would be to paint it normally, doing smooth blending so it looks like very smooth, silky cloth, then add the 'woven texture' by perhaps very small and faint criss cross lines?

Any help is appreciated, thanks 8)

I think that is the basic idea, yes.

Doing the scratches on top of the basecoat then highlighting or layering is also the way to do it - it doesn't stand out as much as you paint over the top, so it appears much smoother. info can be found in this vid - you only need the start bit really and end.

Thanks Hodush, that vid really shows a way of using that technique, and I agree that adding the texture as I shade and highlight will tie it all in and make it more natural looking :)
