Post subject:  Good Lamps for painting?

Can anyone recommend a good lamp/bulb for painting mini's? The natural lighting in my house isn't great and i simply cant do the models justice unless its bright enough outside (very rare here in the UK!).

I don't want to spend much on one so i'm looking for some cheaper options. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Anything that has a white rather than yellow light works well. Most standard bulbs give off a slight yellow tinge, so it's well worth investing a tiny amount more in a pure white light - not sure if there's a technical name for either of these. Also, these white lights tend to be (at least for me) much, much brighter than standard yellowish lights, so I tend to place a visor or screen between me and the light (nothing special, usually just a sheet of paper held up by a crocodile clip, but obviously not too close that it gets set on fire). This way, you can avoid headaches and eyestrains. Hope this helps.

Cheers for the help guys. 8)

I'll pick up one of those with a white light then. Hopefully it will help speed up my painting!

The best color temperature for lighting is 5500K. A bulb rated at 5500K is daylight balanced. You can find 5500K bulbs at most any store that sells lots of bulbs like a Walmart or Home Depot here in the States, etc. They are not expensive.
