Post subject: | Painting white |
I have been trying to paint up an army that uses white cloths as one of there main pieces but I can't seem to get it to work right. The white paint never seems to settle and I can always see the brush marks in it rather then a solid coat even though I have tried several different kinds of paint. I have been working up from a black bases coat with grey and mixing in white then build it up to white over a few coats but it doesn't seem to help much. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting a smooth white coat? Thanks. |

Use water or a matte medium to smooth out the paint. Don't add too much or the white will get chalky. Also, load your brush with a small amount of paint and add multiple thin coats. |

Visible brushstrokes are normally caused by using paint that's too thick or having too much paint on your brush. Chalkiness/graininess is caused by having a too large increase in value. This can happen with any colour but is most noticeable with white. To minimize you need more intermediate tones in the transition from the basecolour to white. Getting a good result with white can take a lot of layers unless you start off with a white undercoat. |
