I don't have a garden or other sensible place to spray-prime my models, so I've been using the GW Imperial Primer pot. Frankly however, its rubbish. Has anyone had any experience of other paint-on primers that you'd recommend instead?

I have the same issue. I just tried the new primer from greenstuffworld.com and I have to say I like it. The only thing I don't like about it is the bottle itself, but it doesn't dry up as quickly as the Imperial Primer and has the perfect thickness while keeping the detail.

I use Vallejo black surface primer (in 200ml bottles) can be brushed on or sprayed with an airbrush. I brush it on and it covers well and goes on thin. Been using it for years now

I use Vallejo primer as well. I brush it on which has the advantage of been able to prime in front of the tv.

I'm gonna try that one too! But right now I'm happy with the one from GSW and wait till the bottle is finished. :)

My bottle of the Vallejo primer arrived, and I'm happy to say that it appears to have gone on nice and thin, hasn't obscured any detail etc... and as its a 200ml bottle, I anticipate it should last me forever! :)
