Great work! It was really fun reading as always

Is there somewhere all your scenario's are summed up?

If not it would be awesome to read it al back on a lazy sunday morning.

Glad you liked the report! Alas, the One Ring is the only place in the web (so far) where the battle reports are published. Perhaps I should do an index of the scenarios with direct links on the first post - that would probably be handy at least sometimes in the future when the thread gains more pages... after all, we attempt to play around 40 scenarios in all over the course of 2-3 years, and some of the larger scenarios will probably warrant battle reports in several installments.

Absolutely enjoy all your battle reports and WIP my only regret about them is not discovering them for myself sooner. (In jest) Pippin should have a "bane" rule against the Witch-King in your campaign.
Really looking forward to more.

Thanks for the kind words! We'll play the next scenario, Hounds of Sauron, in late July / early August, so I'm afraid you'll have to wait still a few more weeks for the next installment. Then we should have the Moria reports up fairly regularly during the early fall - but after that, the gameplay will catch up with my terrain construction. I really need to get the Amon Hen scenery under work, too...

1st fellowship quest together, those hounds of sauron can be pretty hard for the hobbit... already seen many times 2 or 3 hobbits dying to that and sometimes legolas lol :P

Thanks for asking - the campaign has been on a summer break, but will continue soon(ish). We will probably play Hounds of Sauron around mid-August. Meanwhile, here is an updated look at the remainder of the campaign. Thanks to Galanur, we've added a few more battles in the north, and thanks to ukfreddybear, we've added "Restore the King" SBG scenario (featured in BGIME magazine #51) before the "Warg attack".

Another change is the combination of the three scenarios at Amon Hen, which will be played concurrently on a fairly large board. The new WotR scenarios are "Battle of Rivendell", with orcs and goblins (plus possibly the Balrog) attacking Elrond's forces near Rivendell, and "Battle of Mirkwood" with Dol Guldur forces fighting Thranduil. The northern battles are tightly linked - if good is victorious at Rivendell, Elrond's forces will arrive to help Thranduil. If Dáin wins, dwarves will also assist Thranduil (but failing that, easterlings will join Dol Guldur against Thranduil). Winners at Mirkwood will then join the appropriate side at Lothlórien - and the result here, in turn, affects the battle at Pelennor Fields. As before, the Black Gate scenario might not be played, depending on the success or failure of the Ringbearer.

That looks fantastic, in fact so good that I feel frankly inspired to try it!
Is that Ugluk's last stand?

@Bilbo, I'd love to see someone else try the campaign. In any case, it will take us a looong time to get to the end. Do let me know if you need more details - we've scribbled down some notes regarding the scenarios and how to link them, and which heroes are available where.

As to Uglúk's last stand, we do have that scenario as the second WotR game of the campaign. However, if the Fellowship perishes completely in Moria, we will omit it (as Saruman has no reason to send Uruks to Amon Hen). Also, despite the name, Uglúk may die at Amon Hen, so it may well be that he is not even part of the scenario bearing his name...

This is one of the best threads on the site. An utter joy to the eye. Some excellent and inspirational battle reports made all the better by the awesome scenery photos. I eagerly await the next report :)

Great Reports. am Looking forward to the next one. when might we expect it? :)

We'll certainly attempt that at both Helm's Deep and Minas Tirith.

I cannot remember where but I once came across someone who used SBG rules but WOTR trays. He used the WOTR trays until the models were in charge range and then her removed that certain tray. it severely reduced move time in a large battle.... hope that helps :D

Thanks, Lord Maedhros, and we are glad to hear our games are long-expected like Bilbo's birthday party! We have the next scenario set to be played on Saturday, August 17th (or the following Sunday). The battle report should be available here on Monday, August 19th, barring any unexpected obstacles - but short-notice changes in work schedules might still alter the game date.

Your tip about combining WotR and SBG sound good; we are thinking on similar lines - i.e. transforming an infantry company into eight individual models to climb siege ladders (and similarly, transforming a company of defenders into individual models to combat those climbers).

As a related note - I made a rough schedule of the planned terrain construction and army painting, and how these affect the scenario timeline. We can play the next five scenarios roughly one per month, followed by nine scenarios during 2014. Since the headcount-heavy War of the Ring scenarios are grouped towards the end of the campaign, the gameplay rate will slow down after that. In 2015 the construction of Osgiliath / Pelargir terrain and the painting of Gondor & Mordor forces mean that we can probably squeeze in four scenarios. Then, I fear that we can only play three games in 2016 and two in 2017. The campaign should reach Pelennor Fields scenario towards the end of 2018, and provided that the Ringbearer reaches Mordor, the entire campaign will end with the simultaneous Black Gate / Crack of Doom scenarios around mid-2019.

Thus, if you wish to follow the campaign through to whatever end, we do ask for patience. I will, of course, keep updating the behind-the-scenes WIP thread all through the years even when gameplay posts are few and far between...
