Quoi? Alan listens to all the 90's rock classics! IMO the 90's was such an awesome decade for college rock/rock/alternative, ska etc. Whilst indie, emo, the various strains of metal are really good now, mainstream music has broken down into hip-hop and rap (bleargh).

I think the worst thing is being forced to listen to music which is just soo out of synch with your music tastes.

Most random song thats ever happened during a game of Lotr? 'Why Can't We Be Friends' during a combat phase

I feel somewhat disturbed by that comment. Time to go and listen to something so heavy that when I put it on the CD player, I get fan mail from the Seismology Department of UCLA.

Ah yes. I thought the recent earthquakes in Pakistan were caused by something similar.

I've also taken up listening to two songs from the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack - "Davy Jones" and "the Kraken". Beautiful music !

Only thing is I mimic Davy Jones playing his organ so that isn't really ... good ... with painting

I'm painting in the basement (our part of the basement in the apartmenthouse we live in) and always have to listen to the trampling and clamour of the neighbour's kids above. The mp3-player is a medium of self-defense.
Since I am a huge movie score fan I own a lot of them. Well, sure the Soundtracks od LotR, HP, Star Wars etc. are good, but there is a lot of other good stuff around. Try out:
-- Conan - The Barbarian
-- Farewell to the King
-- The Blue Lagoon
-- The Mummy Returns
-- Robin Hood
-- Children of Dune
-- The Mists of Avalon
-- Les Miserables
-- Disney's Dinosaurs
-- Restauration
-- Lady in the Water
--...

If I don't listen to Filmmusic, I listen to:
-- Sarah McLachlan
-- Josh Groban
-- james Blunt
-- James Morrison
-- Blackmore's Night
-- Jack Johnson
-- Schandmaul

I usually have music on when I paint unless I have a friend over who paints with me from time to time. What that music is varies greatly I like rock music of all types but I am mainly a classic rock fan. Typical bands vary from Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Manowar, AC/DC, Magnum, through to heavier stuff like Motorhead, Venom, Slayer,High On Fire, Celtic Frost, Anthrax, Cradle Of Filth but I also like more mellow stuff to like Marillion, Bob Seger, Rush, Saga, Pallas. I bought the latest album the other day by Avenged Sevenfold and that is getting alot of airplay at the moment.

Ah yes I have followed Maiden since there early days and seen them on every tour since Killers 81 tour. I missed out the Blaze Bailey years as I thought they took a step backwards there and the two albums released with him were not really that good.
I will be going to see them in Cardiff in a few weeks time on the "Somewhere Back In Time" tour.
