^^

I use black because its easy to get shadings, I only use white when I'm painting someone like Gandalf the White.

Now I always use black.

I used both white and black undercoats on a Chaos Space Marine champion. But usually I use black, it's easier to paint Black Templars and Moria Goblins if they have been undercoated black.

Black, definetely, it is much easier for the colour to stand out. Also, if you've missed anything, it dosen't stand out as much.

Started black but now use white. I believe it smuch better as the colours look better.
I was surprised how many of the top painters use a light undercoat, but it is a personal choise

Usually black, but anything with a lot of metallic such as WoMT or High Elves I use white as the metals are brighter over a light undercoat.

Depends on what your painting, use the right colour for the right job, white for light/pale colours like my wood elves or black for orcs and Minas Tirith, Although my last lot was primed in Flesh as the models have a lot of flesh, it also gave my reds a fantastic colour.

I use black mostly, its hard to see but a dry brush of grey or white before painting helps the details and different parts stand out more.

I cant make up my mind.
I've always used black, but I sometimes liek to use white.

Sometimes I like to use white, and use a kitchen towel to wipe off the wet paint from the ridges so you get auto highlights. It looks good on some things but it's not something I would always do.
But its good try try out different ways of painting. Even if its just to rule them out.

Never say never, but more importantly, never say always. Have a go with both.

My current favourite basecoat for Uruks is Khemri Brown.

It means I don't have to spend hours painting the fiddly straps, because they are already brown, and it is so much easier on the eye than painting onto a black model.

As I give the models a wash of Badab black mixed with chaos black once I've applied the other colours, the need of a black base for blacklining is no longer necessary. It has speeded up my painting of Uruks and when you've got as many to paint as I have, it's a brilliant help.

I see I am the lone one who has voted for white. Oh well. i stick to it. Though admittedly black is better for some things, like if the model has alot of armour.

I use grey sometimes.
It takes a lot of time before white covers good.

I tend to use black for my Warhammer but all my Aircraft get a grey undercoat unless they are going to be metalic then they are sprayed high gloss black.

Mostly I use black but occasionally white. A bunch of Celts I painted recently were undercoated a flesh colour and I am thinking of getting a brown spray for doing my orcs. As mentioned above, it depends on what you feel comfortable with and what effect you are going for.

I now undercoat my Tyranids fluorescent orange.

But as I previously stated I normally undercoat minatures black.
