yes I agree there are a lack of lotr players around me too. After the films ended it was still a big hit, but after a while it's now wearing off. Although there will still always be people playing, maybe just not where you are. I had a similar problem and I found the solution is to get your friends into it. Encourage them to play, show them scenarios etc... Give them a grasp on the basic rules and that should kick start things. What I even did was sneak them a box of men for a birthday or xmas so they had to try it out. But not to worry, with the Hobbit coming out soon that'll get things going again.

Hi Elrondio,

What exactly is the problem you want help with? Is it that there are no players in your area? Or that none of your gaming friends are interested in LOTR?

The best way to get people interested is to invest in two small armies and let your friends play with your figures without them having to fork out cash for their own armies. Once they play a game or two, they will see just how well designed it is compared to some other games. And of course, the minis are pretty amazing too. Sure, there aren't too many purple and pink tentacled monsters or oversized weapons to be had, but the level of detail on the LOTR figures is simply astounding.

Once the Hobbit comes out and GW start producing new figures to tie in with that, then we'll see a resurgence of interest in the game. Hang in there and start collecting your figures now ready for a new generation of players to discover how good this hobby is.

This is probably the best advice. I would pick a scenario you like and make terrain for it as well. I like to use the Founding or the Shire as my learning scenario.

I have been playing Warhammer Fantasy and LOTR SBG, for many years and I have only ever meet 2 other SBG players!!. I think the problem is only people who are generally interested in the Lord of the Rings movies or book play, and Games Workshop have created all the ****ing fluff so it seems you are only replaying the LOTR battles seem in the films. Thats my opinion

It's how LoTR was marketed and promoted by GW. In other words, most of the staff all but told people to stay away from it, that it was a "kid's game". I experienced this first hand when I saw SBG for the first time and was interested. The guy in the store said that I should pass on it, that is was stupid. They failed to promote it, they failed to acknowledge what an awesome system it was, they failed to introduce people to it in the same manner that they did for WHFB and 40k. When I ran my store, I gave it everything. The end result was the largest LoTR group in the area, regular gaming and good turnout for tournaments in the store. Sure, it helped that there were already fans and players, but it was uncommon to see in the store until I gave it the attention it deserved - and I made my staff do the same.

Not sure if this is what this thread is for, but I also agree that there is a lack of local players interested in lotr, and hence finding an opponent is incredibly difficult, when you eventually find someone who likes lotr, they don't like playing with models, and if you find someone that likes models they always play 40k.
