Post subject:  Battle Companies Photos

Hey, guys.

As you know, I'm working on the Battle Companies Update, with the intention of making it a complete downloadable expansion. Now that I have completed all the faction sheets, it is time to start collecting some graphic elements that will eventually go into the .pdf file. What I am needing is for people to volunteer to take photos of their miniatures that would show what a starting company would look like. For instance, I will probably do the Mordor Battle Company myself, since I have plenty of painted models, so what I will do is assemble the models needed (3x Orcs with shield, 3x Orcs with spears, 2x Orcs with two-handers, and 2x Orcs with Orc bows) and pose them on some nice terrain and take a photo of the group "in action" so to speak. If you are willing to assist and would like to have some of your miniatures featured in the publication, just post here to let me know what company you will be doing and and then take your pictures and post them in this thread. Things to keep in mind before volunteering:

1. Minis should be painted to a high standard, and placed/posed on nice terrain.
2. Photos should be clear and well-lit.
3. You could depict your company engaging another company if you so choose (to show off more of your models of course).
4. Look at GW pictures in the journey and sourcebooks for inspiration. I am trying to replicate that level/quality of photography as best I can.
5. You will be credited as a contributor in the final publication.
6. I am trying to get as many contributors as possible, so please only volunteer for one company (although it may be that down the road we may need to fill some holes, so somebody may end up doing more than one.)

Battle Company List:
  • Angmar -- Needed (2x Orcs with shields, 2x Orcs with spears, 2x Orcs with two-handers, 2x Orcs with Orc bows, 2x Wild Wargs)

  • Harad -- Needed (5x Haradrim Warriors with spears, 5x Haradrim Warriors with bows)

I'd love to help you out Jon, but I'm afraid I probably don't have enough minis painted to form a Battle Company (I really have that little painted :P ). I wouldn't mind painting up a Warg Rider starting company for you, but then we have the problem of being placed on terrain. I have none, and I never go to a local store so wouldn't be able to get any pictures with any either. So your probably better off not using me as I'm probably not the best man for the job. Still, good luck collecting all the images you need. If I can help in any other way, just let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Wow, Jake...You really did need to participate in the Backlog Reduction Oath!

I appreciate your willingness to help. I will need some more assistance as this thing gets closer to completion to do graphics of the scenario layouts, actually laying out the pages of the .pdf, proofreading, etc. I'll let you know when we get to that point, if you think you could do any of that stuff...

I really, really did. The majority of my army is a custom paint scheme, called 'the grey horde' at the moment :?

I have experience in proofreading as I was an external playtester and proofreader for a company called Avatars of War when they released their game 'Arena Deathmatch', so I guess I could help out with that when it comes to it.

Looks like I have Angmar, Misty Mountains, Dwarves (if two non-GW dwarves are OK) and Rohan painted. I won't be able to take photos until Thursday so if anyone is quicker, please go ahead.

Might be good to list the models for each company in the original post so that people know if they can offer their models without having to look it up.

@oxford_guy -- Thank you kindly for the offer. It is greatly appreciated. I will be in touch when we get to that stage.

@Pasi -- No hurry. It will be a while before this is ready to start laying out, so Thursday will be fine. Just pick whichever faction you like best!

@Cyndra -- I would hate for you to paint over the names on your bases just for this, but I do think that the pictures would look more "professional" without them. I will leave that completely up to you. Conversions don't bother me, but I do want them to look pretty close to "stock" miniatures, as that would be what you start off with.

@ Hashut's Blessing -- Quite right. Fixing that now!

Thanks! I'm going to bow out for now in case someone else wants to do Mordor, and I could fill in holes with a few different forces after we see what we have.

I really appreciate you guys being willing to help out with this!

I don't mind painting over them at all. Most of them are not done very well so I can take more care over them next time.

Thanks: I can do Woodland Realms, Easterlings and Dwarfs - I'll even go over the models again to make sure that they're in peak condition ;)

Post subject:  Re: Battle Companies Photos

Actually, you guys make a good point. Perhaps we should all just do whichever comanies we have and then we can pick and choose the best photos to go in the .pdf. Extra photos could be used elsewhere in the book (scenario pages, the core rules, etc.), so disregard what I said about only doing one company!

I was right The camera is not good enough. I can borrow Linda's or Fred's.

I would like some suggestions for groupings and lay out. There are only four photos in this album. Look through and make lay out suggestions.
I can set up something for Morria as well.

Better not good enough

I could do dwarves, maybe encountering a troll or cave drake... Although I will have to make some scenery then, but that can't be a problem I think (this way I can force myself to make at least a small part of scenery.... )
