I was recently thinking how awesome it'll be to have new minis for the Hobbit movies, which got me thinking about how those minis will fit in with the ones we currently have. This got me thinking about whether they'll add on to the armies that already exist, or will they make different armies for the same location, just separated by time?
If it's the former, then we can obviously see the Shire, Dwarves and Elves getting new and better units. Then we get new goblins, though I get the feeling that they'll be under a "Misty Mountains" type army, rather than Moria, and more Mordor units, with the chance of having an actual stand-alone Dol Guldur army.
Then once the second movie comes along, we'll start getting units from brand new armies, most notably the Men of the Long Lake. For the MotLL, they'll pretty much have to make a new army (unless they do something wierd and put them with Rohan or something) which makes me think that they might make ALL of the TH minis be in seperate, but similar, army lists.
What do you all think?

I have to say that I am enormously excited about the new films, especially after seeing the trailer! I am particularly glad that Peter Jackson is clearly squeezing the book and its back story for all its worth as there is a lot there. I have enjoyed collecting, painting and gaming with my LOTHSBG miniatures and frankly can barely wait till we get a substantial amount of fresh miniatures. I suspect that we will get a rule book per film and new armies and a plethora of new characters and monsters to field. I suspect that GW will maintain their rules for old miniatures along with the new. I look forward to fielding Stone Giants and groups of Eagles, as well as new goblins. I also notice High Elf Knights with lances, and what appears to be a spider leg at Rhosgobel. Rhadaghast on Bunny sled looks amusing and hopefully will have a special rule so that it won't be too pants in the game.

Lots of filthy armoured dwarves please. Here's a thought: if dwarves are as competitive among their own kind about their fighting prowess as Gimli was with Legolas, imagine having hundreds of them counting aloud as they hack their way through goblins, wargs and bats.
'Sixty-one! Forty! Thirteen! Seven! Was that twenty three or twenty four?'

Actually, when I think about it, this would be a great way of intimidating the enemy. Every number the dwarves call out is another enemy out of the fight. Could be a special rule, causing fear or something like that.

Maybe I should do the same for The B a z o o k a? ' Seven thousand and forty six'

Yes. Not one of PJ's better notions, but you need something to moan about in every movie... In LOTR you had the army of the Dead (Tolkien made such lovely un-cliché ghosts for you, how could you muck it up, Jackson?!?)
