Dunno how many of you are aware of this, but Howard Shore wrote many alternate songs for the films which (sadly) didn't make it in in the end. Some of them are quite impressive, and, though a great loss to the film, you have to wonder where there'd have been room for them with all the other music he made.

Possibly the best one is the Gondor theme, which, once you've heard it, is quite clearly the base on which all the music for Gondor is based, and very, very nice to listen to.
For those of you who don't believe me, you can compare two similar, but not identical versions of the Siege of Gondor:

One youtube user, jediking12 has uploaded pretty much all of the music, both alternate and released, and it's safe to say it's pretty epic. Enjoy!
