Its true!

They continue to expand their IP buying other companies. After Pixar (Toy Story, Cars, Monsters inc.,...) and Marvel (Avengers, Iron Man, Captain America,...) Disney bought Lucas Films for over 4 billion dolars.

Lucas Films includes at least two really major gold mine franchises in Star Wars and Indiana Jones. What can this mean for the future? Well, they also announced Episode VII to be released in 2015. Prequel? Sequel? Sequel to the Prequel? Prequel to the Prequel? Prequel to the Sequel? It all sounds very confusing. Maybe a diferent story line like Knights of the Old Republic or Clone Wars? No details yet.

First rumours say that the main villain might be Darth Goofy and that the next adventure of Indiana Jones will take place in Duckburg and he will be attempting to take the Number One Dime from the richest duck in the world Money Bin.

I'd watch that.

I had to look at the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1.

WTH? While it's true that George can't write dialogue worth a dang, I'm not sure I trust what Disney would do with it if he didn't have some oversight. I've been a fan of the Clone Wars, and the darker, more adult, turn it's taking, and I can just see Disney lightening the whole thing up to candy floss. I'd been hoping Katie Lucas would step in, I've liked her contributions to TCW so far.

Ah well, the only thing constant is change...

Disney is really taking over. They'll soon have world domination!

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

I sense a disturbance in the Farce... as if millions of squeaky voices cried out in pleasure... and were suddenly silenced.
Star Wars 7: A New Dopey
Star Wars 8: The Ewoks Strike Back
Star Wars 9: Return of the Binks

Then again, Pirates of the Caribbean started as a ride in the Disney theme park, soooo if they do it right and break George's fingers so he cannot type silly dialogue, it might just work.

But I have a bad feeling about this. :(

I just read that they are making 3 more films as a trilogy for the time after RotJ, and then more films after that... every 2-3 years.

They can't do any worse than George Lucas, can they? The man responsible for Ewoks, Gungans, and droids that say "Uh oh"!

Well, I dunno.

On the one hand, Disney is, well Disney. Dodgy politics. Endless straight to video sequels. Future drugged out pop stars. On the other...

Disney did give the world the Avengers movie this year. They own Marvel, they own Pixar. They own a lot of IP, and are pretty clever about letting each IP do its own thing. To me it looks like the mouse is aiming to have a highly diverse media portfolio - all of which they make money from, but don't automatically become Disney content. Or Disneyfied.

So...on the one hand its part of that increased monolithic nature of IP providers. On the other...well, they know to leave their new IPs alone.

Hell, at this point, Disney probably should be thinking about making a bid for the movie and television arm of the Fox empire. Least that way Star Wars 7 can have that triumphal music before the crawl rolls.

PS: when Disney bought Pixar, they ended up with Steve Jobs (he of the iPhone fame) on the board. He banned those endless straight to video sequels that have so been the bane of frought parent's lives for two decades. So it ain't all bad.

I dont think it can get much worse than eps I and II, and George Lucas aint directing anymore so thats a plus. For me, the best movies were the ones he did not direct.
Hopefully they will keep all the ultra cgi style from the prequels at bay and go back to old school models and miniatures... oh, and an actually good storyline.

In my opinion the prequels have their good moments, but they are not that many.

I heard 1. Lucas is going to be involved in the overall process, like coming up with the story and such, but not directly involved with the dialogue, and 2. There will be at least 3 more movies that take place after RotJ, hopefully the 2-3 year statement only applies to the 2nd and 3rd movies, not meaning we'll have SW Episode 15, ever.

On the bright side, any future Kingdom Hearts games will feature the Star Wars Universe. ALSO, just think, a videogame where the Avengers help Buzz Lightyear fight the Empire and save Princess (insert any Disney Princess name).

I thought the prequels were fine, but then I love the cgi world-building and the density of detail.

I would have really liked them, if not for teenage Anakin. That actor is horrible.

Lucasarts is still lucasarts, it's not as if they've all been fired and replaced by disney artists and writers etc etc. I hope the new films follow the continuity set out by the books, if not, there will be hell to pay!

I agree, but sometimes it looked too shiny and new. The "lived in" universe of the originals was far more believable for me.
