They look good miniature-wise, but there are some points that bother me: silly hair, silly abs and some strange weapons. They may be some of the best miniatures quality-wise, but not design-wise! ;)

There is now that you have pointed it out, a bit of a male ballet dancer look to them! Now that it has been brought up, its all I can see! And its not really the flavour that I was going for in a wild orc army.

Honestly, my eyes have been opened Stone Wall style. "Get over it, some orcs are gay!" Its not a problem for me, as long as they can still nail those pesky Dwarves! Mungo Bagins, your Puppycomment just makes it worse, and everything I type seems to hold a double-entdre!

I was thinking about using Wargames Factory unarmored Saxons as rank and file Ruffians for my Scouring the Shire themed lists for a 750 point tournament in November. I made the post mentioning that on my local forums and one of the guys who normally posts there absolutely blasted me for it.

I've come across that sort of blinkered attitude a lot lately. Ultimately, if you dislike the idea of using unofficial miniatures, then you only have the right to refuse to play against that person yourself (when/if he uses those models).

Trying to dictate to other players that they cannot, should not, MUST NOT use any miniatures to play Gamesworkshop games other than those official miniatures sanctioned by the Citadel Plastic Purity Council is incredibly arrogant and frankly marks you out as a nutter to avoid at all costs.

heh. this type of situation just got a bit more interesting as GW is stealthily completely discontinuing their metals. Any metals that are running out of stock are going to "no longer available". which was first noticed by the specialist games crowd.

I think I'm past caring what Gamesworkshop does now.

Just seen Mithril are releasing a Hobbit vignette, not sure how it blends with GW stuff

I do like Mithril's style, but personally would be tempted to come up with or acquir a different rule system to cope with the and range of miniatures. differences in equipment.

Ah, cheers for the red box comparison... I was just thinking of starting a thread to ask for some of those. I clearly should have checked this thread.

On a related note, does anyone have any scale comparison shots of red box dwarves? From what I've seen, they're stockier and more WHFB-esque than LotR dwarves, but I'd still be interested to see them side by side.
