Today I got my first Finecast pieces: Uruk Crossbowmen and Amdur foot and mounted. Amdur on foot had a TON of flash, but it was easily removed and there were no bubbles. His sword is a little messed up, and it feels flexible as though it's made of rubber. Is that normal?

Mounted Amdur's helmet spike was hanging on by a thread and broke when I picked him up (no, NOT by the helmet spike! :P )

So, what do I do about the damage to mounted Amdur? Do I just glue it back and call it good, or should I email GW for a replacement? Will I need to send it back?

With Amdur, go to GW, though you are actually lucky with your Amdur as many of the casts are much worse. They often snap off before they package them, and then they still package them, with a misssing spike. Damn GW!

Oh and for thoser of you hoping GW will sort out the Great Beast, be prepared to be dissapointed as they have discovered that they can leave them as they are and tell people how to 'fix' them, which is too cut off its head and attach it seperately.

When you say "go to" do you mean to return to the store, or via email? The closest store (the one I just came from) is about 20 miles away down the busiest highway in the province. By the time I finish work on a weekday, it isn't even an option to go. With rush hour traffic it would be like a 3 hour round trip.

That's such a load of [word deleted] with the Great Beast, and it makes me glad I'm not interested in one. For those out there with the ambitions to own them, WD #305 has a Grond model and their Great Beasts were made from Rhinoceros toys. Just some food for thought for those with a measure of sculpting aptitude.

@Lord Hurin, I would say email them, but make sure you send a proof picture. Also that Grond is in a picture in the WotR book, but its a small pic and you can't clearly see it.

@Quendil, if the 2 halves don't fit together, which they obviously won't, cut of its head and attatch it seperately. It will fit then, or ask a GW employee to do it for you.

@Sticky Fingersss, The manager of my local GW store contacted the factory, and it took them a week to get back to him, but when they did, that is basically what they said, but in a more glossed up way.

As I've pointed out, the Great Beast is the only FC that is "reliably" bad. Finecast in general is just that: fine.

I have had two packages each of uruk Berserkers and Crossbowmen. Crossbowmen were perfect, the Berserkers had some warped swords (a nuisance, but not bad enough to send them back) and one missed a part of his lower arm (lengthwise, and barely noticable).

@Draugluin, I agree with your summation, my Great Beast has the normal problems whereas Amdur just had a missing spike which I exchanged for one that wasn't and both the Warg Marauder and my 2nd Troll Chief were both perfexct.

Oh, don't get me wrong - the models are lovely. Better than metal? Hard to tell as I never had metal sets for either. For the premium price, I'd just like to have a complete model rather than a glued one.

I recently purchased the isengard commanders and warg marauder, 1 of the goblins and the uruk banner bearer both have the bottom of their faces (lips to below neck) completely missing. I'm too lazy to send them back as they were an online order so I'll probly try to sculpt something but it sucks to have models with those sorts of problems particularly on the face, else where is easier to cover up

It's swords like this that make me shy away from finecast. Thin pieces of resin get bendy and while hot water helps, they still end up bendy.

that looks bad...realy bad... It is possible to fix that? I dont have anything from finecast but will all these topics about how bad it is i dont think i will ever buy anything "finecast" it looks more like "ultimatefailcast" 8)

About 66% of casts from what I have seen are perfect. With about 16% acceptable damage/warping and 16% unnaceptable damage/warping.

My Amdur on foot had a slightly bent sword (I know, I know. Make all the viagra joke you like :P) but it was bent towards his body across the wide part of the blade. The hot water method worked alright, but not fully. For the price we're paying for such a supposedly grossly superior product, I'd think we wouldn't have to do stuff like this. It's definitely disheartening.

I must be particularly unlucky then, because I've had about 20% being up to the standard of the metal equivelent and about 40% repairable damage, and 40% unacceptable must be returned.

That's not too bad. Alot of the metal models had to deal with the same thing, such as pikes or berserker swords which would be really hard to make perfectly straight.
