The GW one is much rarer than the BGinME one. Value is in the eye of the beholder. RRP basically I would guess....

Yea, I plan to chop up the BGinME one for a mounted conversion

What is the story behind the ice balrog?

From what I have heard is that it was an unreleased kit, or conversion kit, I am sure DMS or John can correct me if I am wrong.

Personally I think it's pretty awesome and would love to get my hands on one!

As a lover of Balrogs (!?) the ice version never did it for me as it didn't feel right which is why I'm assuming it never got released. DMS did a cracking paint job on his though (still didn't change my mind on it :wink:

).

Finally, someone who agrees with me.

Balrog means "Demon of Shadow and Flame", How can you have an "Ice Demon of Shadow and Flame"- and without the fire too. It can't possibly have existed.

I wonder if there were any unreleased vignette sets? Like maybe the death of Haldir, or the death of isildur? Also I wonder if we'll get any for the hobbit? The riddles in the dark one is meh, and barrels out of bond is ok but I would love a more dynamic and scenic one like maybe Azog beheading Thror at Azanbalizur or Legolas vs Bolg and orcs in laketown.

As much as I hate their vignettes being over priced I might finally buy one if they had Thrors head being chopped off I might finally just buy one.

The Ice Balrog may have spun off form the slime Balrog. The Slime Balrog was an abandoned concept for a Balrog in the Dead Marshes which was going to chase Frodo, Sam and Gollum in the Two Towers. This I found out form watching my US extended edition of The Two Towers in the appendices.

No, you've got that wrong I think. The "slime Balrog" thing came from early concept work of Gandalf's battle with it. The book mentions that when they fall into the lake, the "Balrog's fire was quenched and it was a creature of slime" or something like that. PJ and crew wanted to portray that, but ran out of time and/ or money.

H'm I am sure you all are right, I need to watch that one again. Perhaps the Ice Balrog was supposed to illustrate the Balrog when he is on the mountain peak fighting Gandalf. Still how rare is that conversion pack I would like to get one.

Lot nicer then the plastic lira ones for sure! Jealousy does not describe my feelings of your collection right now. And I think dms must have been sent the ballot parts in the commission because if they are as rare as you say then boy they would have cost the "patient" a heck of a lot of money.
