hey all

i was just wondering if it is a good idea to put on a wash after the sand has been dried on your base?

does it give it a darker look?

then after that i drybrush, i was looking for something a little bit darker than what i got so i thought that adding the wash is the trick.

what do you guys and gals think?

thanks

I had tried it yesterday and yes it works. I had some grey stones on
bases which looked to bright. After adding 'Devlan Mud' they looked
darker.

If you glue the sand on the base after the miniature has been primed, it will generally look better if you paint the sand with a dark colour or give it a wash. I usually paint the sand with very thin Scorched Brown, to make it flow easily between the grains, and then drybrush the sand with lighter colours.

My personal opinion is that thoroughly painted and drybrushed sand looks better on bases than just washed sand, which shows the original coour through the transparent wash.

Almost any textured surface - including sand - can be washed for instant good-looking darkening.

my paint scheme for my bases is this:

1. paint charadon granite on the sand.
2. drybrush graveyard earth
3. drybrush kommando khaki.
4. then put on dead grass.

the color i'm looking for is supposed to be darker but it's coming out lighter than i want.

should i put on a wash to make it darker and if i should do that when should i put the wash on ? After i put on the charadon granite or before?

thanks guys for the comments
