Hi,
can anyone offer any suggestions on what to use to protect the paintwork on finished models.
Its mainly the metals I have trouble with. Its very frustrating to spend so much time getting it to look how you want and then the paint getting chipped the first time you use them in a game.
Iv tried coating a couple with a matt varnish designed for acrylic paint but it still seems to leave a slghtly glossy finish. Its not too bad on the smaller models but im hoping to start work on my fell beast soon and I dont want to spend ages getting it to look just as i want it to then go and ruin the look with a layer of varnish.

Any thoughts?

Most people use Testors Dullcote. I haven't used it but have heard nothing but good reports on it. :)
I need to start using varnish myself. hmmmmm......

I use a matte varnish by vallejo then paint matte medium (also by vallejo) over the top as it gives a biscuit matte finish. For purely display models that dont get touched, I just use matt medium. It isnt designed to be a varnish but I like it. One word of caution, I wouldnt use a hair dryer when using varnish and be careful with tamiya varnish...has a tendancy to go white!
