Anyone use any other models or conversions for the sons of eorl Im not gonna spend $13 per model from gw. I have some gripping beast dark age warriors I was thinking about giving cloaks on their backs but. Ill have to cut apart some riders to get their legs

Also is mail sculpted with green stuff just by poking it all over with a round tool?

What he means to say is that this is an expensive hobby and most people think that the sons of Eorl are a well done sculpt and are well worth the $12, if you are lucky enough to pay such a low amount and not the $22 it costs us here. :D

It's totally up to you and your opponents, generally its not the done thing at tournaments, but you might have a more lax TO. I think the best way to do it is with Riders of Rohan and green stuff.

Someone on here or TLA has definitely done some Gondor knights using alternatives which could work (based on normans I think). I have had good look but cant find it though :( Myabe it was Dol Amroth alternates...

22 bucks each damn that's rough, and I'm not a tournament player I've played against the same five friends for a year now so proxies are used quite often

They're € 11.5 over here, which is like 15-16 USD and 17-18AUD I think.
For that reason, I probably won't buy them.

I do have some 50 riders of rohan and I'll probably convert some to SoE.
Green stuff is your friend. I like converted GW models more than proxy's but that's just my opinion :)

I'd be careful of doing such an in-depth conversion and sculpting project if this is your first go at it. Take a look around this site and others, read some sculpting articles and get yourself mentally and physically prepared first. That's my best advice.

No. Not if you want it to look like chainmail. It has to be done in rows. Best demonstrated in this video:

Green stuff is tricky to learn, but can be easy to use - i wouldn't really suggest this as being a good place to start with it if it can be helped. I would recommend getting a bit of GS and practicing the chainmail technique even if it means you have to throw it away.

I assume that you are in the US? The hobby was strong their in the past, but its such a big area which isn't helpful - tournaments might sound picky, but they are good motivators and great fun, so I would suggest trying to get along to some if you can.
