Hi One Ring, I'm considering running a large BoFA game using SBG figures, not the small 10mm stuff. I'd like some suggestions for figures, as using all GW official SBG figs would require the GDP of a small country. So here's where I am at. EVIL SIDE Orcs/Goblins - GW Orcs -easy to find on ebay and I already have over 100 Wargs - GW Warg Riders - I have about 20-30 already GOOD SIDE Elves - GW Wood elves - this will be one of the bigger expsense. I have about 30 already and I think I know a local game store with the 24fig boxes still on the shelf Dwarves - ??? -not sure which way to go with this. I have some GW LOTR dwarves but would need more. I don't think they look like 500 Fully Mailed dwarves as described by Tolkien Men - ??? - Again, not sure what to use. Not a big fan of the laketown figs, also finecast(yuk). The Dale figures are not bad but a little pricey. What figures are a good match size wise? Maybe some Dark Age figures? Gripping Beast? Conquest Normans? Perry Crusader Infantry? Old Glory 25's? Eagles - GW or D&D Plastics - There would not be a lot of Eagles, 5 to 10 Thorin and Company - GW Grim Hammers with head swaps? Any comments or suggestions to help guide me to launch this project? |

Infantry from the Rohan range could potentially work nicely as soldiers from Laketown. I think that's what GW used to do before the Hobbit era. |

If you don't mind mixing styles then the GW Warhammer Fantasy Dwarf Warriors are ideal for what you're looking for. When I collected a WHFB Dwarf Army a couple of years ago I used the LOTR lore as the background for my army, which then became a fully-fledged Moria force but in Warhammer scale and style. At £20 for 16 fully-customisable miniatures, they're also cheaper than GW LOTR Dwarves and offer complete versatility rather than having an army of 12 repeated identical miniatures. |
