Can you all help me with making horns.

I want some to ad to my many armies (I don't want to fork out the money for the commanders sets although the Minas Tirith horn blower is one of my favorite models ever!!) and some armies don't have horn blowers.

So give me you tips on how to make horns out of green stuff, plastic, card anything give me ideas and if your cleaver enough give me tips for musical instruments as well. :rofl:

Pictures are most welcome also.

Thanks in advance

I have made one using a plastic animal horn from a bits box. which can be seen on this guys back here;

You can also make this with a hobby knife and a sprue by sharpening it to a curved point then use a micro file to smooth it out and Green Stuff epoxy to make any details you want.

Also you can make a entire Green Stuff epoxy horn and just need t get the shape and have a tool to push in the center so you have a area to darken, this can be seen here;

Other ideas are on this thread: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=28838

As I stated there, I have used wargames factory ancient germans box for horns, banners, quivers, etc. http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/mig ... an-warband

To add to what Mapper said, Wargames Factory Vikings boxes are positively riddled with war horns. Like, 6-8 if I remember correctly. Plus tons of extra weapon bits after you assemble the figures. The Viking Huscarl box set is also a great buy for the figures you get.

I thought there would be another thread about this but I couldn't find one. Not sure how Wargames factory would think about shipping to New Zealand :P

Thanks for the help.

If it is a horn attached to the body, just roll a piece of putty into a thin cone shape and attach. Push into each end with a pointed tool to form the cavities.
If you want to model the horn being held, first drill out the hand, then insert a bent pin (or straight depending on the type of horn you are making). Cover the pin in putty using slightly more at the far end than the mouth end. Use clay shapers to smooth the gradient naturally. Simples :)
