Has anyone bought the Frostgrave Soldiers from Northstar?

http://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=7467

Looking at the individual spruces I wonder how the arms/heads would fit with Wargames Factory or on LOTR figures.

I ordered the plastics today. I'll let you know when they come in.
However, they look a bit "heroic" in scale to me. We'll see.

Thanks, would be interested in your view of the models. They do look "heroic" as you say, but I wonder if that would matter if the arms were used on dwarves.

Thats a good thought Mapper, I was just reviewing them and thinking the limbs a little heavy set.

Look forward to your thoughts on receipt Seren :)

Got them in today.
They are "heroic", but not "warhammer heroic".
In other words, they are a bit chunkier than is realistic, but then again they are meant to be wearing layers and layers of warm clothing.
They will mix moderately well with the LOTR line, but only partially... that is mainly due to the wildly mixed scales GW LOTR uses. Earlier GW are 25mm. Some are 28mm. Some are clearly 30-32mm.

The figures themselves most closely will fit with Foundry or Gripping Beast plastics.
The detail is really good on the figures though, with tons and tons of gear options and 10 head options on a 5-body sprue. Very characterful. Most reminds me of a dungeon-crawl D&D group. Manufactured by Renedra.

Well worth the money.

Thanks Seren, that was quick! Would be interested in seeing a completed model when you get to it and a side by side comparison. All the extra gear does appeal to me, always like weighing down my figures. :-) That is why I always liked Sam carrying around his frying pan.

Quality wise - this is all you needed to add. ;)

10 head options? Wow.. thats great! Frostgrave has a solid future methinks with attention to little things like these.

They are releasing another batch of minis for their Thaw of the Lich Lord expansion in November, including a box of plastic cultists!

There are even rumors of more expansions after that. :)
The rules are pretty nifty too.

The author of Frostgrave has on his blog a nice picture of size comparisons between different figures.

I managed to get the rule book on Amazon a few weeks ago for £10 delivered, its a really nice book and a great rule system, well recommended, very similar to SBG in away.

Had the plastic soldiers delivered today, great detail, I'm just gluing some together as i write this, will post some pictures tomorrow.

Well, the author of Frostgrave is a big fan of the SBG, and has even been known to post here occasionally...

I think the Frostgrave soldiers work pretty well in conjunction with most of the LOTR range. They are tad smaller than most of the later LOTR metals, although not as small as the early LOTR plastics. I just keep them on their integral, put them on the GW base, and putty over the difference. This bring them right up to the hight of most figures. They make good militia/outlaw types.
