Hey there, everyone.

I originally joined in 2010 with the full intent of getting into the hobby, which needless to say, didn't happen. (Mostly due to the fact that the only hobby shop in town closed down, and the fact that there weren't many players to begin with...) Skip forward a few years and I find myself relatively close to a Games Workshop that apparently hosts LotR matches every week. As such, I've decided to give the SBG another go. Of course, the rules have changed and I was pretty out-of-the-loop to begin with... it's going to be a long process in order to get back into the swing of things.

Welp, that's all I can think of for now... if you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I'm sure I'll be asking a ton of questions in the upcoming days.

I haven't settled on a particular force yet. I've picked up a variety of troops throughout the years however, so I think I'll expand on two or so of them. At the moment I'm thinking of going with Mordor and Lothlorien based armies... which leads me to some questions.

1. With the apparent nerfing of bows, combined with the 33% rule, is it even worth it to field ranged orcs? I remember their usefulness being spotty at best, but I guess it's good to have some for a "just-in-case" scenario.

2. Profiles. I have some stats from 2011-ish, have they changed dramatically enough to warrant a purchase for the "new" sourcebooks?

3. Numenor! This has little to do with the things above, but I was wondering if it's possible to use the troops from Warriors of the Last Alliance in conjunction with 3rd Age Gondorians, or any other of the Free Peoples for that matter.

Welcome :) In answer to your questions.

1.) Elves are still worth taking, any evil archery (except crossbows) is now useless for the reasons you have already given.

2.) Some bits have and some troops now have specific upgrades based on which heroes you take. Eg. Erkenbrand can increase the FV of RoR by upgrading them to redshields. I would say it is definatley worth getting the new sourcebooks.

3.) Numenor is its own list in the Kingdoms of Men book but there is no reason why you cant ally them in with 3rd age gondor etc. I sometimes run Isildur/ Elendil and a warband of numenoreans in my gondor army.

Ah, thank ye very much! Can't say #1 was unexpected, but disappointing nonetheless. I guess if I really wanted bows, I could go with Uruk scouts... they seem to be the best choice aside from crossbows.
