First of all, a massive thanks to polywags, Dikey, bruceqn and ja33 for helping me to get back into this fantastic hobby after a long hiatus! Your recommendations were extremely helpful.

For my first force (I now have a few in the pipeline thanks to Ebay), I settled upon Gondor. Though some might find this a bit boring, I wanted something fairly easy to start with.

To get me started and committed to building this army, I have come up with a 300pt list. The low points limit is temporary, and is only there to get me painting to match the progress my brother is making with his Easterlings (also currently 300 points!). Once I have finalised this, I will be starting my WIP thread, so watch this space!

Anyway, here is the list! I'd love some feedback if you have any!

Warband 1
-Faramir with heavy armour and shield
-5 Guard of the Fountain Court with shields
-1 warrior of Minas Tirith with shield

Warband 2
-Captain of Minas Tirith with shield
-6 warriors of Minas Tirith with shields
-6 Rangers of Gondor with spears

Total: 300 points

If you think I need to swap some stuff out, here's a list of the Gondor models I have.

Aragorn King Elessar foot and mounted
Faramir Ranger of Gondor
Armoured Faramir on (foot and mounted)
Boromir of Gondor (foot and mounted)
Boromir Captain of the white tower (with and without banner
Denethor steward of Gondor
Gandalf the white foot and mounted
5 Guard of the Fountain Court
3 Citadel guard with bows
2 Captains of Minas Tirith
Knight of Minas Tirith with banner
Warrior of Minas Tirith with banner
20 warriors of Minas Tirith with hand weapons and shields
20 warriors of Minas Tirith with bows
20 warriors of Minas Tirith with spears and shields
8 Rangers of Middle-Earth with spears
16 Rangers of Middle-Earth

In progress of aquiring:
Cirion and Madril
Damrod
Beregond

At only 300 points, I don't think you should pay the points for Fountain Court. While D7 is handy against (at the most) 12 Easterling bows, he must hit on 4+, and wound on a 6 against your regular troops anyway: more troops will serve you better.

I recommend a classic Minas Tirith:
Faramir with heavy armour and shield
6 Shield
2 Spear
4 Rangers with Spear

Damrod
6 Shield
2 Spear
4 Rangers with Spear

This will out-class anything he can bring to the field--though Amdur with 2 Pikes would give you trouble, but seriously reduce his numbers. You have better archers (hitting on a 3+) and most of your troops will have higher Fight--a game changer.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try out what you recommended. By the way, I thought I'd mention that I have managed to get hold of Beregond via eBay, if that means an even better list is possible?

Beregond has an Elf bow, and an extra point of Defense: a bargain for only 5 points over Damrod. Would I take him if that 5 points meant one less Warrior in my army? I think so, but a close call. With an elf bow, you might skim a wound or at least a fate point off a hero...worth it.

Maybe using Denethor or Beregond instead of Faramir would free up enough points to increase your model count without weakening your overall army's strength hero wise.
