Agreed, dwarves are my second choice if I can't get the models together for this beast of a list I just worked out.

Here is what i have been toying around with:

Dunland Chieftain with shield
4 Dunlendings with shield
4 orc warriors with shield and spear
4 uruk hai with crossbows

Sharkey and Worm
5 uruk hai beserkers

Only 19 units but a solid 5 defence across the board, along with a pretty decent caster and plenty of combat potential. Dunland chief also has a cheeky 3 will, meaning low level casters won't get the drop on him (i am terrified of gundabad shamans).

Extensive playtesting has asked more questions than it has answered, however I have come to a few conclusions.
1) One all-cavalry warband is a massive gamble.
2) Ori's 'Deadeye' special rule is great.
3) Oin's 'Healing Herbs' and 'Prognostication' keep Dwarf heroes alive.

Had 2 games with Thorin's Company. Got spanked by Wood Elves in 'Domination', fear of the Stormcaller stopped me playing agressively and allowed Legolas and his buddies to roll an obscene number of 5's to wound.
Then I beat a tough Isengard list in 'Hold Ground'. Careful movement meant that his crossbows didn't do much, Ori sniped a few xbows and zerks and Dori, Fili and Kili's F5 kept winning fights until the Uruks were ground down.

I am no closer to picking a list, but I do have several more that I need to try.

Man, taking Throin's mate does seem fun - but i really wanna make use of these 'ere Dunlendings/Woses i have recently acquired. The woses are nice 'support' units, and are very cheap, just not sure who to take alongside them...

If I had Woses I'd take Treebeard with them. That is not a tactial decision, it is just that I am painting him for this month's painting challenge and he will (hopefully) be finished tomorrow.

Thematically Woses would be nice with Rohan.

How's this:
Vrasku
Isengard Troll
4 Uruk hai warriors w crossbows
3 Uruk hai warriors w shields
4 Uruk hai beserkers

6 crossbow bolts a turn, troll and beserkers for killing power, 13 models with high defence and the beserkers won't fail courage tests !!
