And you need him because of the WfRs. I'd realy like to have profiles like a captain of the westfold, who is about 5 points more than a normal captain but also makes you able to include WfRs same with Helmingas. Maybe add a little special rule and make him 10 points more than a captain.

I also would love having rules about warriors can only be led by specific heros like that:
captain: warriors, riders, outriders
captain of westfold: warriors, riders, outriders, westfold redshields
captain of eastfold: warriors, riders, outriders, helmingas
Hama: royal guard, riders, outriders, warriors
Erkenbrand: royal guard, riders, outriders, warriors, westfold redshields
Theoden: royal guard, sons of eorl, outriders, warriors westfold redshields

Much better fluff/theme wise than the Rangers of North - me likey!

The cav warbands are still too large for my tastes and I'd drop 5-7 riders from across all 3 to afford a mounted captain or Theoden but that's just my preference when using all-mounted ROHAN!

Be interested to give it a go at the weekend, who knows, maybe this is the hour when we finally draw swords together...

I'm happier with the extra numbers and bows rather than the RotN or Theoden/Eorl I have to say.

As for the cav war bands being too large, I guess that's the wonderful thing about this being a skirmish game. Is that these guys only have to be war bands from a deployment point of view, before going and doing their thing over the 6x4 table. Whilst at the same time, being more survivable should anything distatrous happen with deployment.

I hope we shan't meet on this occasion actually Damian! Call me chicken, but your 1000 point Isengard would absolutely hammer this force

I like it a lot better too, and don't think you're even close to punishing yourself tactically (which Theoden probably does, in fairness- not optimal but cool).

I've finalised my Uruk Hai list also (I think!). Mostly this just means I've finished painting mounted Saruman

List is looking good there James, I think dropping the rangers has helped you get the body count up plus 11 might with a wizard should be pretty decent

Warband size looks good to me, I am guessing the plan is to send some of the warriors off with Gandalf after deployment (the Sons of Eorl can even keep pace with shadowfax lol).

Also I really, really, really hope I don't play you at recon.....

So if I get it painted here is the 5 armies climax I promised. Only the eagles n Bear n Hobbit left out. If I don't get it painted the back up list has all the races but none of the competative edge... NONE!! NONE AT ALL!!
