Hi guys. Recently I've played a game with an hero only force, using though models really not competitive. However I had a lot of fun ( especially with magic- I had Gandalf the white- Galadriel- Radagast and a Stormcaller with Aragorn ) and I didn't lost so bad as I expected.
However I prefer to win so i made these two list : do you think they are competitive? Which is better and why ? And how I can improve them ?

List 1

Glorfindel with Asphaloth + Gondolin's armour

Gandalf the grey on horse

Saruman on horse

Aragorn on horse, armour

Arwen on horse

750 pts. Lots of magic, Aragorn and Glorfindel heavy hitters, sourcerous blasts each turn and nature's wrath from arwen that might come in handy ( I have some serious doubt about Arwen )


List 2

Saruman on horse

Elladan and Elrohir mounted

Glorfindel with Asphaloth and Gondolin's armour

Aragorn mounted

+ 95 points that I don't know how to use.


Less magic, however more impact force: +6 might from the twins and +2 attacks and still 95 points to use.
OT a couple questions: if sourcerous blast hits cavalry models, do I have to roll a dice on the thrown rider's chart? Because on the rulebook I read ( like for Nature's Wrath ) that models are automatically knocked to the ground, as if a 1 has been rolled.

I have a feeling Boromir Captain of the White Tower with lance would be a good addition. Do you give Aragorn Anduril?

If you have small its left over, get elven cloaks - when those horses die they'll come in handy.

Last weekend I played a few games using 750 points of The Fellowship. You really can't get more 'LoTR' than The Fellowship, so I reckon everyone should give them a go from time to time.
I used:
Gandalf the Grey
Aragorn, bow, armour
Boromir of Gondor
Legolas
Gimli
Frodo
Sam
Merry
Pippin

I won 'Lords of Battle' against Isengard and 'To the Death' against Harad (Boromir and Gimli butcherd a Mumak, I kept winning heroic moved and pinning it in place, but it did squish Aragorn earlier in the game). I lost 'Reconnoitre' against the same Harad force, but that was always going to be tough as it was all cavalry and a mumak. I had a chance to clean up both cavalry warbands, but Aragorn and Boromir both whiffed crucial heroic fights. Gandalf was either awesome or useless, at one point failing to cast Sorcerous Blast 5 times in a row. Hobbits are occasionally useful, getting in the way and preventing other heros getting trapped, pinning cavalry models in place and the occasional kill with a stone. Having Frodo put on The Ring to escape Uruks is especially characterful. Doing impressions of the characters as you play adds comedy to the proceedings too.

Use The Fellowship, maybe not the most optimised all-hero force, but easily the most characterful and loads of fun for both players.

Lol Gandalf failed five times to cast Sorcerous Blast. That's just bad luck. I do impressions in my games as well. Everytime my Ent kills a Dwarf a make a small speech and my brother gets furious.
