Is the mouth of sauron good? My army is easterlings.
Also, what do you think of his spells, himself in general, and his best impact on a battle.

Honestly the one time I faced him I turned him into a pincushion with my elves. Make sure he is well protected!

I like the model, but as a competitive piece I'm not a fan. With D5 and only 1 Might he's not much of a fighter (you could get Shagrat with a shield for the cost and Shagrat would wipe the walls with him). He's got a decent selection of spells, but 4 will isn't masses. A budget wraith will have twice that for the cost.

He's a mediocre caster grafted onto a mediocre fighter. I'd much take a hero for only one role who can actually perform that role well.

A budget ringwraith is always better.

It might be worth converting him into a Black Numenorean Marshall.

He still has his merits in WOTR though, as a non OP magic caster, but again ring wraiths are still better.

If you're interested in budget wraiths, then a generic one will do. Personally, I prefer the Witch-king (with crown) for single model (on foot) and for horse, Khamul for foot support and fell beast, the Betrayer for fell beast, and the Knight of Umbar, all around. But, if you want magic, the Undying is brilliant.

As for the Mouth of Sauron, he can fill in nicely for a captain, though always make sure he has a couple people to hide behind until he's gotten his will off. Think of him as a captain of men with transfix and a limited supply, and you should be fine. He goes nicely when paired with a wraith.

My current Mordor contingent tends to choose between Undying Mounted, with Kardush and a Budget Wraith, or sometimes an Orc Shaman on warg.

I am disappointed with the MoS in SBG. Considering his importance and close ties to Sauron I really would have thought he would have been more potent, and cost appropriately. He was more than just a cool looking dude that rode out of the Gate near the end of the story to get his head chopped off (in the film). He was even intended to take control of all the lands and people west of the Anduin up to the Gap of Rohan which were to be a tribute to Mordor, ruled by the Mouth from the rebuilt Isengard. There is also a feeling among some readers (myself included) that the Mouth was the rider that delivered the messages (threats) to the Dwarves of Erebor of which we hear about during the Council of Elrond (the BBC radio broadcast expands the role of the Mouth more specifically in this direction as well in a very cool way).

I like to subscribe to the theory that he is truly old (from the Second Age) considering the comment about him being so old his name is lost from any tale and even from his own memory. Consider Gollumn remembered his real name still after 500 years. As for "how" there are a few theories (well summarized over on http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Mouth_of_Sauron ) but simply channeling the the Dark Lord's commands and existing so close to his presence may be enough to prolong his life. Even if you go with the shorter duration theory that still makes him as old or older than Aragorn and having a Numenorian of that age existing so close in the power and service of the Dark Lord should still justify a profile with a mix of combat, magic and special rules to rival or exceed Gothmog and rival the Nazgul in game terms. But obviously GW doesn't ask for my opinion nearly as much as they should...

When WotR came out GW did a better job beefing him up and if it wasn't for the really screwed up Cost/Power issues with the Nazgul I think the Mouth would have been a far more competitive model in that system. As it was I still used him regularly in my Dol Guldur force with great effect. He would sometimes be second to Khamul or the Necromancer and other times be my primary leader.

But now that I'm shifting back to SBG more I'm finding myself again disappointed. I may do a "use as" and replace one of GW's 'creative' Nazgul cheeze with the Mouth so I can continue to use him effectively and get the in-game benefits of one of the special Nazgul without tainting my own soul too much. :-P

If he came with terror and heavy armor, he would be amazing. As it is, he's pretty good. Everytime I've used him he's died but he's also always done some damage.

That's exactly the kind of thinking I mean. Not even game-changing special rules or over the top powers. Just two very common traits that would be more than reasonable and themed and not even alter the points too dramatically. But they would make him a more valid profile for the role he has.

I do agree that he is underpowered for the character. Actually I wouldn't mind too much if he was an evil Gildor-level character- one that should be about 20pts more for the profile he's got than his actual points.

Yes, he needs a different profile.

Thanks for the help guys.
So from what I understood, you all are saying that it would be worth it more to get a ringwraith instead of Mouth or get both.

So ill probably get Witch King of Angmar.

My personal favorite! For him to defend himself, have the crown. The crown is awesome, unless you just want him to be just a magic user.

I don't know why you didn't just use the Mouth of Sauron if you like him, he's a rather underestimated piece and can work in your favour.

Hmm, I have always thought of him as someone who dies rather quick because of his armor and fate. Oh well I will use both.

I do agree with Gothmog, the situation with the Mouth is that if you put him in a place to be shot, he will be. And he has difficulties in fighting other heroes. But otherwise, he can be very useful.
