Can I have feedback on this list please...more thematic for the models I own opposed to tactical...however I have thought about tactics.

Warband 1
Anarion (King of men) with Shield, Heavy armour
Guard of the fountain court with Shield x 5

Warband 2
Captain of Numenor with Shield, Heavy armour
Warrior of Numenor with Shield, Sword x 6
Warrior of Numenor with Shield, Spear x 6

Warband 3
Captain of Numenor with Shield, Heavy armour
Warrior of Numenor with Shield, Sword x 6
Warrior of Numenor with Shield, Spear x 6

Warband 4
Fiefdom Warlord (Ekenbrand) with War horn, Horse
Westfold Redshield with Bows x 12

692pts.
MODELS:45
MIGHT:9
BOWS:12

I figure the main bulk of troops can march down the centre while the horse archers protect the flanks and cover the advance with arrow fire.

Basic but solid fight value 4 army is my thinking...and with the bodyguards and Ekenbrand's war horn keep the line in formation.

Why not take Numenorean Bows as well?

A few reasons...

- Because I'd prefer to have some solid fighting infantry
- The westfold redshields will double as my fast moving archers
- I don't own many any numenor bowmen

I would replace 6 westfold redshields for:
4 sons of Eorld leaving your army at 696pts
You lose 2 models but you gain a huge punch through infantry :)

But then I only have 6 archers and then its not really worth it for bow support.

I get what you're saying about the extra punch...but id prefer to have some diversity with the bows.

If I wanted an extra punch I'd probably replace the Westfolds to mounted knights w lances or royal guardsmen

Saying that, I think 10 Westfolds are quite formidable in their own right.

This could make sense but it depends on enemy's army. So, you can consider this as a good alternative ;)

alrighty... although if its bow you wanted prob you would want not 12 westfold redshields but like 8 or 9, leaving the rest for outriders, yes they do have less defence and fight value, but better shooting and 1 fate point, which turns em to be more accurace...

I figured the red shields would be good for both Bowfire & combat

I wasn't sure on the bow legality limit if I added Outriders

elven shooting which means better accurace on the move... also 1 fate around who knows and will still spare you a point but you gain not only better shooting and 1 fate, but also 1+ courage and can use standfast regardless the distance of the heroe...

Yeah but having 8 Westfold redshields and 4 outriders for example is illegal?

The reason I had the ROR/Redshields is because they could legally have full bows in their warban regardless of the 33%

or am I wrong?

I am almost certain the latest update to Rohan Outriders takes away the 1 fate point. They are no longer classed as a heroes and are under the warriors of Rohan section to stop the abuse of Gamlings Banner.

if the redshields being riders ignore bow limit % means watever else yu have with bows, only those will count for 33%

ohh and yes the fate point its gone, even soo..

You are correct. RoR are completely ignored for the purpose of working out bow limit. If you wanted 4 outriders, you'd need 8 Infantry, RRG, SoE etc.

This is also true for the reasons you gave. It was taken to a GW doubles event and smashed everything...GW promptly closed the loophole...

My 500 points list is:
Isildur, 2 Captains (no wargear)
12 Shields, 12 Spear & Shield, 12 Bows.

So I have more troops than you and in my games I find that I will struggle the longer the game goes on because they don't have many ways of getting quick kills and the low D of the troops hurts. In my last 2 games I have kept the bows close and got them into combat quickly which has helped to pull of some wins.. just. It struggles more against horde armies.

Taking all that into account, I am thinking of dropping 1 of each troop to give isildur & a captain a horse and the other captain a shield. This hopefully means the mounted guys are punching above their weight and don't have to use might on winning fights as much.

I think the redshields are the best thing to include - they add the hitting power needed and the bows, no other model does it as easily or as cost efficiently. They are low D like the rest of the army so you have to do what you can to make sure they don't get surrounded or engaged by more than 2 models. Sons of Eorl would be ok, but I think you lose too many models by adding them in, so if you do choose to do so, not more than 2 I would say.

I didn't like the GotFC initially, but they have good D and with the shields can hold the middle of the line for a bit longer, so I would say everyone is balancing out and working together well as it stands.

A last note: you are basically playing as high elves or another elite army, just costs a few less points overall. Your force revolves around winning fights (High FV, Mid/Low Def.), so the more you move away from this or add into surivability you are watering down your focus and probably not gaining much. For this reason, I would remove the heavy armour off the captains in preference to giving Anarion a horse - you need the hitting power and captains should be expected to win their fights with some support, not be trying to save damage particularly,. Use them on the flanks, call a heroic combat that you know you will win to try and get flanking happening early. The only other thing to add would be a banner as it would help you survive longer by killing more (hopefully).

I would add a warrior of Minas tirith with shield to fill the last 8 points or an archer....just something to fill it out. I'm sure there is something useful you can do with 8 points.
Maybe you could rustle up enough points to change the king to faramir? And just give him an alternate name for fluff? Idk if you're ok with that kind of stuff though....
Or drop a couple spears and get a horse for someone?

Yeah I'm currently playing around with the formations.

Just finished converting the bulk of this army...determined not to post pics until I have finished painting and start a WIP
