500 Points Rohan all mounted

I want to play a all mounted Rohan army. I know, that such an army isn't as strong as a normal army, so the army at least should be really funny to play.

Moreover a don't want to pay to much and so I am looking for good alternatives for the metal models. I have 6 Knights of Dol Amroth and so I am thinking about painting them green an play them as Sons of Eorl. The Problem is, I am not very good with renovate models. If you have easy ideas, write them please!

Heres my list, what would you change?

put the Sons of Eorl in one warband. i understand you want to balance the power, but that's at the expense of the Sons' extra maneuverability. the royal guard aren't as good as they seem. with Erkenbrand, all your models are great courage anyway, so the bodyguard won't be great. for the points, throw in some more Riders.

You have too many mted models in each warband. Consider bringing 1 more warband to you army!

@Isilduhrr: I think you are right, because the banner is better with this valuable models, too.

@Valadorn: One more warband means one more hero and heros are expensive and I am going to be outnumbered even more. I tried it and it looks like this:

All Ill say is good call on the royal guard. I like the first list in the last post.

Dont take the banner dude.....if you played me, I would shoot him of his horse or swarm him before he could do any good use with it. NO DOUBT I would concentrate on him first. Id do anything in my power. And youre low on models. Add another Son of Eorl or something.

If you are taking Erkenbrand, you don't really need the royal guard. If you do want the royal guard, then you should take 2 outriders so they can control any objectives far away from the battle without failing courage tests. The reason you don't really need them is that you have Erkenbrands' horn and there are other more important things to spend points on.

You need to decide what you want to do. I see this list as a charge in and hope for the best list which probably isn't going to do well (but might go ok with all those sons of Eorl). Basically you have to decide if you want to invest in spears, redshields, more bows or RRG/SOE - you can normally have 2 varieties and still do pretty well, otherwise you won't last.

I personally went more for the riders of rohan force:
Eomer KOTP, 11 riders with spear
Erkenbrand, 10 riders

Otherwise go for a normal Eomer and then use the extra points on SOE or Royal guard or something. I found that I really needed that second Hero for heroic strike and heroic combat so you might struggle having Eowyn in there.

You say this, like it is the easiest thing in the world

but if I only loose the banner, before I get into combat, I would be happy. Otherwise I am thinking like, if I can help one SoE win one close combat, he will kill at least 12 points, but if he looses, theres a good chance for me, to loose over 20 points and so the banner nearly did its points witch only one combat.
I'll test the list with and without banner.

I did not think about spears, yet. But they could help to reduce the number of foes at the begin of the game, what will decide how it ends. I surely want to play some SoE, because the more alternation, the more fun and that's my main intention playing this list.
And besides, can I play as many bows as I want?

Personally i'd always chuck in throwing spears in a cavalry list. your goal is to be charging every turn anyway, so it's a much better investment than on infantry.

As has been stated, the main reason the banner is not a highly favoured option is because it costs so many bodies when you already have a low body count and you generally dont want to be committing it to combat which reduces your numbers further.

You probably won't have the required room to be able to use every spear if you equip all your riders, so it depends on terrain layout quite a bit (you may be able to flank them and be protected by buildings or forest and then would be able to use all the spears).

Redshields are the same thing - fight 4 is nice, but if its costing you troops, you could get into trouble very quickly. It's all a matter of balancing it how you want to play. 2-3 Sons of Eorl are a solid choice i think.

I think K4 is always worth the point! For example my last list would just have one rider more, if I just play normal riders.

I really enjoy to search how historically armies used to fight in the past. Its really interesting and help a lot to make your own strategies and play style

If you just "ride heroically into combat" with Rohan, you will probably be slaughtered, even more so if you have a banner. You can't just charge in, you have to know when to charge in and went to move out of the enemy's charge range.

@GothmogtheWerewolf: I will attack when tmy foe got the initiative.
But as I said, the army should be funny to play. Besides I think a hit and run tactic wouldn't work in many scenarios.
Has anyone here played an all mounted army? What are your experience and how did you play it?

Watch the GBHL YouTube videos. James (Thermo on here) has been very successful with them. As to people saying you need more heroes for your list I'd agree. Simply because you need to charge or else you're dead. Charging in on your opponents priority is key but what then? Next turn if you don't win priority and disengage all your Cav will be surrounded and killed add they won't have any bonuses, heroes being able to call heroic moves to pull back prevents this from happening. Also banners in Cav armies are near worthless because their range is so small and you're force is typically more spread then infantry.
I seldom play all cavalry but when I do I never bring a banner

Yeah I like the force very much without the banner.

Unless you have like a 550-750 on foot with banner, im a huge advocate against banners though. I personally am, so maybe Im am biased.....but the list is good without it. Good luck!

Edit: As for how to fight with them.....im not a cavalry expert by far, but I found taking your cavalry near their weakest troops especially out of the range of a good hero. Like if they have a harad chieftan as opposed to Suladan, hit the side with the Chieftan. Less might, and less ability to counter heroic moves to get the charges in......

with Rohan, you can equip all your Riders with bows. do so. soften them up a bit before "charging heroically in" you need to get the numbers skewed a lot more towards you before you have any chance of winning with all-cav Rohan.
