Hi guys,

I'm new to the game but have bought 2 boxes of Mirkwood Rangers, Legolas and Tauriel.

So my 500pt Mirkwood Army is:

Legolas with Elven Cloak & Armour
11 Mirkwood Rangers

Tauriel with Elven Cloak
10 Mirkwood Rangers 489pts

A bit cheesy perhaps having all bow, but I really like the figs and an all bow is different to the other armies I am collecting (all mounted, all hero, and Goblin Town).

I'm looking to expand the army, but I don't like the Palace Guard figures, so I think I'd like to use Wood Elf Allies from the Free Peoples book.

Any tips would help.

Cheers

Deacon

Lol dont worry about all bows dude! Too many jerks in this hobby torture people about fluff.

Elves usually all have bows in a force like yours anyway!

Well....my suggestion would be Thranduil first of all, and a warband of Galadhrim mixed with wood elf Spearmen

I would do:

Thranduil
6 Galadhrim with shield and Elven Blade
6 wood elves with spears

You can say the Galadhrim are Thranduils body guard, and the other elves are in their for spear support and can also shield.

Or if you wanna go the other route, put in Beorn, or a wizard.

I would take Thranduil, too. But take bows (you never have enough Elvenbows)!
For example
Thranudil
6 Woodelves with Elvenspear
4 Woodelves with Elvenbow
are about 175 points

Bows are good but hes already got 25 arrows per turn....he needs more survivability. He needs some troops in front of his rangers to not be shot back, and he needs shielding.

If you want to have more survivability, don't take galadhrim. those few shields won't do you much good, because your oponent will just shoot the other guys not hiding behind shields.

I suggest you take:

Thranduil
8 wood elves with spears
4 wood elves with spear+bow

those spears can shield anyway if you would ever prefer to do so.

And if you want another warband, take a stormcaller and again thesame consistency of troops.

With those elves, it is very easy. You win the combat or you die.
front rank mirkwood rangers with wood elf spears behind is cheap, and should give you 3 dice per combat when you win priority, 2 when you lose priority. And thranduil and stormcaller will save your day many times. Nature's wrath means that the next turn(s) you won't get any dead elves because of lost combats. And the all terrifying thing of thranduil means again, less oponents.

It is also important to heavily outshoot your oponent. Therefore, max out your bows, always.
