Hi everybody,

I hope that this is the right place for my question.

At the moment, I do have these miniatures:

- Thorin
- Balin
- Dwalin
- 24 warriors of Erebor
- (Bombur)
- (Alfrid)
- (Beorn)

At 500 Pts., I am playing with this army:

Warband 1: Bombur

Warband 2: Thorin Oakenshield with The Oakenshield; 6 Warrior of Erebor with Spear; Shield; 6 Warrior of Erebor with Shield

Warband 3:Dwalin 6 Warrior of Erebor with Spear; Shield; 6 Warrior of Erebor with Shield

Warband 4: Alfred the councillor

I do want to play a thematically correct army, so I am playing the warriors of Erebor as Iron Hill dwarves, because I want to play the BOFA theme.

My question is:
How can I expand this army to a 750 Pts. force, which is strong and thematically correct?

Thank you for your help.

If your going for theme, I'd suggest adding some lake towners with Alfrid, so people don't immediately think your taking him for cheese reasons

If your looking for more dwarves Balin leading a warband, his reroll to priority can defintely shift a few poor rolls into wins

After that, Mirkwood elves, bilbo, gandalf are all nice additions, defintely on the legolas front aswell

A you should feel a little guilty for taking Alfred but on the other hand at a competitive tourney good needs a boost. Here's a choice that makes him less filthy Warband 1 12/12
Bard the Bowman, Girion's Heir with Armour; Horse;
6 Laketown Militia with Bow; Shield;
6 Laketown Militia with Spear; Shield;

8 Mirkwood Ranger

Thank you for the quick reply.

I think that the warband with Bard is not allowed, because it has 50% bows. The warband with Legolas has the same problem; the special rule does only count for Legolas Greenleaf.

What does the army need: Bows? Monster(s)? Numbers? Speed? Magic?

Your right about Prince of Mirkwood not being able to lead 100% bows, so how about this...

Legolas Greenleaf, Armour, Elf Cloak
10 Mirkwood Rangers = 245 points.

I think the shooting could be a big help to your force.

That sounds good. However, do you think that this is thematically correct? I read the book several years ago, so I am not sure, if it is logical that there have been some rangers (because the BOFA wasn't in a forest).

I do also think that shooting would help me a lot. But I don't know what I can do against magic. Is there anyone who can give me an advice?

Well, against magic, the two most obvious tactics, looking at your army are to:
1). Shoot the spellcaster
or 2). As there'll probably only be one, and you've got two combat monsters, send both at him and as he can only neutralise one at a time, you'll get him eventually.

Okay, so you would say that Legolas and some rangers would be the best addition to my force?

Well, I think that armoured mirkwood elves would be even better for the theme. But I dont really like the miniatures and they are quite expensive. However, I am also thinking about taking Beorn or some Lake Town militias. Radagast would also be interesting.
What is the strongest choise in your opinion?
