Dagorlad's foray into WWII

I bought one of Ebob's Opel Blitz 3 ton trucks the other day and have had great fun assembling it. It's very cool little model that is extremely well detailed and fits together so easily.

The cab roof isn't glued down just yet (need to fit some window glass in, and add a driver model), which is why it looks a little crooked. Plus I need to do the inside of the rear tray and paint the headlights etc. But it should be finished soon.

I must make a mention about Ebob's customer service too - the model went missing in the post and he immediately sent out a replacement model when when I let him know. Thank you very much Bob, that sort of service deserves a lot of praise!

Nicely done, the truck appears very realistic with all that 'dust' near the bottom front of the truck. Do you plan on adding pin size holes as if bullets have passed through the wood, or maybe add some other ruined detail?

Either way I can see this being a great piece for a scenic display. Great sculpt Ebob! Looking fabulous Alan!

I like that alot, it looks suitably worn for a truck of that time. Once the driver and glass are added it will look even better.

Are you using it for The Great Escape game or just to have the mini?

I plan on using it for a couple of WWII games I am interested in - AE-WWII and Rules of Engagement. I have been searching for a decent 28mm squad level skirmish game set during the Second World War and these two seem to fit the bill from what I can tell. I have the rules for AE-WWII and think it looks like a lot of fun (it can cater for both purely historical as well as 'weird-war' style action), but is currently limited in it's description of available troops (no British, Italian or Japanese) and vehicles. And I'll pick up a copy of RoE soon to give that a go.

The Great Escape game looks well thought out, but isn't a combat game and so doesn't really appeal to me. I love the minis for it though, very characterful.

That looks fantastic, Alan! I love the painting. It's an extremely authentic look you've managed to create. I recall painting WWII models in high school and they always looked sterile. This has such character!

Some time after getting into GW's LotR figures, I purchased some WWII minis that were available at my hobby store. I think they're from Black Tree (or something like that). They're all Waffen SS units, but a nice variety of models. All they need is opposition.

I am often tempted to start painting the WWII miniatures for a board game I have (Memoir '44) but, for now, have limited myself to painting only the sandbags, hedgehogs (tank traps) and barbed wire. If I start on the units I will have my work cut out as there are American, German, Russian and Japanese units. Apparently, British units are in the pipeline.

The thing is, a recent expansion for the game (the Air Pack) came with pre-painted aircraft. A few painted fighters over the battlefield can really make the plastic troops, artillery and tanks look rather bland.

I've been happily building a few other WWII models (waiting for DurinsBane to mak a start on Bag End) for my miniature collection. I had some trouble getting these from the supplier, but they eventually arrived.

Below is Ebob's wonderful little 3 tonne Opel Blitz truck, together with the newest arrival to the motor pool - a Type 82 Kubelwagen. I have a BMW motorbike and side car on the painting bench too, and hoep to finish that soon. The driver and passenger of the Kubelwagen are only partially finished, as is the sub-machine gun-toting SS officer from the AE-WWII range.

Great looking models Alan, really well done so far! I like how you've painted the camouflage on the car and wheel rims...great addition to the piece. Your eye for detail is second to none!

My passion for all things WWII continues unabated. In fact, it has expanded into the realms of 'weird war' as well.

This is a model from a company called Grindhouse that is in the process of developing a game called 'Incursion' - a Space Hulk-like game with Nazi zombies vs Armoured US Marines. The model is an A.P.E. Armored Personal Exoskeleton. I have another of them on the painting table, but need to finish some Warg Riders before I can spend time on this sort of distraction.

Alternative history WW2 - a touch of the Hellboy meets Harry Turtledove, methinks. Very nice.
But I will stick with Rommel, Monty & Co.
