Those of you who know me well will understand the following image...
Attachment:
flakasaurus_01.jpg

This is a conversion of a Schleich Ankylosaurus toy with a Flak38 20mm Anti-aircraft gun - a 'Flakasaurus' - for an upcoming gaming supplement I am writing called 'Jurassic Reich.' The gun is from CompanyB minis and the platform is scratchbuilt. It's not finished yet though, it still needs some handrails, stowage, and perhaps even some schirtzen (armour panels) etc., but I'm pretty pleased with the progress so far.

  Now that is awesome!
Some hand rails would definitely be good. Also, it's hard to tell if it looks realistic how it's resting on his back....

There are two cushioned bars it's resting on, a bit like a horse collar. There will be straps and more bracing to hold it in place when it's finished and also a seat for a driver at the front. I will fit some armour around the edge to protect the crew as well, since this would also be used in an infantry support role.

LMAO "How realistic it looks" :)

Alan, if you haven't already seen it, get a copy of the Dragon Wars film released a couple of years ago - its such a great film I won it for 1p on ebay but has plenty or armed dino's.

Matt, I'll paint the gun and platform in desert camo colours and put some Afrika Korps decals on it.

Dave, I'll look out for that DVD now, but this project is testing the limits of my scratchbuilding skills so I don't expect to be able to make anything much more complex.

An update...

I still need to add some details here and there, but the essentials are all done now. I'll work on weathering it and adding some Afrika Korps decals as well as fixing up the ordinary paintjob of the dinosaur itself.

:yay: That armour looks great. Good job. I definitely think that some weathering to the gun and armour would be good, and some spiffing up on the dino won't hurt either. :)

Thanks Dave,

Nic from Eureka Minis is considering doing it as a kit if there's enough interest!

And two more images, now that it's just about finished. I still need to paint the gunner and fix up the poor paintjob on the dino though.

Well, what do you know! My concept has finally been produced as a commercial miniature. This is the Flakasaurus Fd.Kfz 213 Ausf B - Falkvierling 38 mobile anti-aircraft weapon platform thing.

First used in Africa in 1943 during the battle of Kasserine Pass, the Flakasaurus saw widespread use in Russia and later in western Europe. Here is one of the earliest known photographs of the weapon:

And this is a representation of the original vehicle/creature in model form, available soon from Eureka Miniatures.
