Post subject:  How to download third age total war
Hi guys,
I went to the site where i previously downloaded the lotr mod for rome total war. I went to medieval total war and clicked on the latest version (3.2), and it came up with this. I have not found the latest version on any other sites.

The message simply says: "Disallowed Key Characters"

Does it work for you guys, do you know how to fix this problem, or do you know another website to download this from?

The last time I downloaded it, it worked fine. If I recall correctly it was from the same website. Did you happen to change your PC specifications since the last time you downloaded it?

no the settings are the same.

I can get to the site on my family computer but not my laptop

I'll have to download it there, put it on a memory stick an copy it to my laptop

This mod can be a nightmare to download and launch but worth it once you're playing. As Constantine suggests, it can be one of a hundred reasons why you are having problems so trawl message boards and try each solution until you find the one you need... took me a while!

Just a point, once you are happy, it might be worth taking this thread down... Warner Bros sent a cease and desist to the prospective middle-earth rpg mod for Skyrim and unfortunately, shut it down.

Even though these are non-profit fan made mods, same thing could happen to TA:TW if it's overly voiced!

This about sums it up; the website you are using is about the only one that works. I used that one.

I found the problem with mine was that it would freeze as soon as I tried to fight a battle.
The oddest fix ever, but it works, is to take off 'Daylight Savings' on your computer's time (you may have to go into Window's Command to do this). Try this if you are having any problems.

Sorry to revive this, but I have a couple of questions regarding the mod.

1. What site can you download that does NOT have virussy links all over it.
2. If you get the mod, how is it activated?
3. If you get the mod, can you still use the origanl version, or can you now only play it as the LotR version.
4. Do you have to put the Total War disc in to play every time?

There's only one. Moddb

It's activated by double clicking the icon on your desktop that comes automatically when you install it

Either. It goes as two separate games. The mod is like another expansion pack

Yes I requires the disk every time

Probably a shot in the dark here but anyone play this (or any other LotR-based strategy game) in Linux under wine? I honestly haven't bothered with a new Windows based game in well over a decade mostly because my free time is directed to other things but I've been itching to get another strategy game. I couldn't care less if it's the newest or best looking thing out there. I'm more intrested in good balanced gameplay against computer opponents and I'd really like it to be one either for LotR or with a mod like this. This one has been brought up a few times on forum posts so just wondering if any other Linux users out there have had luck with this under wine?

I find it's a fairly balanced game, however, the computer obviously doesn't have a brain, so, it can't work out my battle plan and react to it until it is too late mostly

Thanks. From chats with friends it seems many strategy games have developed really poor AIs over the last many years as a focus has shifted to pvp gaming. Although my favorite gaming moments are almost always against another human my schedule rarely supports the timing needed for something like that currently. So not counting the fact that the computer can't anticipate and counter decently developed plans, are you typically satisfied playing a game against the AI?

As for the rest of the post...I can understand not being familiar with wine (layer that allows most 'doze apps to run under Linux), but no idea what Linux is at all? :?

How many viruses are on Moddb aor does it vary?

Also, I am I correct in thinking you can field Mumakil with trebuchets on their backs?

I've never found any viruses. There are definately none in the mod, however, you can never trust adverts. Watch out for them. Make sure you download the right thing, as, sometimes, an add comes up wanting you to download something. Make sure you download the mod and not the advertisement thingy.

No. I don't think you can get mounted trebuchets, although that would be really cool

That faq thingamajig says you also need to download 'patch kingdoms' is this necesary, and if so is the link it gives the right one?

Also, is the little box that say download now on the mods accross from the word 'mirror' the correct one?

I just downloaded this after Christmas and now I love this game. You need "Kingdoms"or the "Gold Version" of Med total war2 in order to play. The Mod uses the expansion pack to work. You need to download 5 patches in all.
Third Age 3.0 part 1 & 2. Third Age 3.1 and Third Age 3.2 parts 1 & 2. A short cut for Third Age should appear on your desktop after you install 3.0 parts 1 & 2. Install the others for the best play experience.
