Post subject:  The Passing of the Grey Company

I have recently returned to my Grey Company army and when I went to look for the heaps of Grey Company models I bought just before quitting Games Workshop, I noticed they were gone, lost when moving house.

I hopped on the GW website only to find they are gone. Do any traders here still have them? I only need two blisters.

Thanks for your time.

Would you be interested in rangers of the north or Dunedain?

I think that getting hold of them is a long shot and he might have to settle for whats available such as the Rangers of the North (which are identical rules wise both game systems) or the the Dunedain (who are allowable as grey company under WOTR rules.)

I have Dúnedain and I am not a huge fan of the Rangers of the North. Yeah, it's posing to be a problem getting them now. If anybody comes across them I will buy them for a bit extra.

I know what you mean about the Rangers of the North. I am not a fan of the Sherrifs badges (I know it c connonical) but it looks a bit twee to me. The Dunedain however I think are superb models with a realistic feel!

The thing about the grey company models is nobody bought them because they were never released in store, always been a direct only blister. I don't know anyone in my local community (and even in the GBHL) who have some. Everyone used Dunedain/ Rangers. I never liked the models personally, look too heavily armoured for rangers.

I have a pretty near exhaustive collection but, I never bought these models for the same reason as Southern Dunedain! I would have prefered some Coursair Reavers or something else that never got manufacture such as mounted Hama!

I am kicking myself guys, I had loads and they are gone. It is proving to be an impossible task to get them. I am [word deleted] at Games Workshop for removing them too (though I understand why they did it). They were some of the nicest LOTR models.

If anybody catches wind of them let me know. I will pay ten quid a blister and any postage required too. Feel free to pass this on.

Check with the removal guys, they should have been insured?

£10 a blister ? you do realize these are very heavily sought after.

It won't matter, they can't replace an item that doesn't exist any more.

They really aren't, there hasn't been a single post in this section requesting them since they were discontinued. There are none on ebay and to be honest if they were highly sought after, then Games Workshop wouldn't have got rid of them.

As pointed out earlier in this thread, people generally use Rangers of the North. The Grey Company models are sought after by a few people and not that much by the looks of it.

As part of my work I will write up insurance valuations for objects, usually art, jewellery and antiques and I can quite happily tell you that whether an item is still being manufactured or not has no bearing on an insurance claim. If this was true you would simply not be able to insure antiques, art work and oop jewellery, which is not the case! If they are insured realistically you could put in a claim at the value of the blister pack, or if you are a professional level painter and can find an example of an item sold on eBay, you could use that price as a bench mark. If the items were covered by insurance, claim it!

How does the old saying go? You don't appreciate what you have until its gone. Grey Company minis were never that popular with gamers. Most people I know just painted the plastic rangers in a grey paint scheme. Now they have gone their collectibility factor has risen tremendously and I know several people who are scouring the web in search of getting a single blister. I would be very surprised if one pack went for any less than £30 on eBay for example. Fortunately I managed to get 3 blisters before they went oop, which is enough for my warband.

You make very good points, though they weren't painted. There were six blisters of them, so I could claim back the money.

I can't even find them on ebay, I only need two blisters, so I probably would pay that for them.

Unfortunately as they were sold in such small numbers I suspect that the few people that own them have bought them to keep and are unlikely to come up on ebay unless the owner loses interest in the game, or pops his clogs!
