Hello! I think that I have decided to begin to collect lotr figures, went to the store today and bought two small sets with lotr figures. So far so good. But then I began to wonder what future lotr has, does Games Workshop have plans to keep on developing this game? I know that Warhammer is the most popular alternative, so I just wants to know if I have to worry about a scenario were I'm starting to collect and buildning an army and then suddently games workshop stops with creating any more figures. Ah whatever, I just wants to hear from you that I got nothing to worry about |

When the Hobbit is released, new miniatures will come out, so not yet. |

Well, my old club almost stopped playing, but there is another club close by. I stopped for a small time, but I'm buying new figures again.. But to answer your question, as far as I know, don't worry. GW will release new miniatures very soon, and it's really populair in some place. |

Its the second most profitable game after 40K the GW has to offer , so I, and I think any reasonable person, would think that they woun´t be dropped not in the near future. Sure someday everything will fade away beneath the shadow of something newer and cooler but for the time being its good |

I thought WHFB was next after 40k. There has been discussion of LOTR being discontinued, but it has all turned out to be rumors. WOTR is still dragging in enough money that GW shouldn't discontinue them for a while. After all, if they run out of characters from the films and books, they can just release more made-up stuff and make oodles more money! |

I remember reading somewhere, I think it was on Warseer, that GW is actually quite pleased with WotR and fully intends to support it. The LotR range will surely be given a great boost by The Hobbit films. I've also heard rumors that they'll re-release the LotR films in theaters in 3D around the time of The Hobbit films. So, I don't think you have to worry about the LotR range dying anytime soon, with these on the horizon. |

Hopefully when the Hobbit comes out SBG might become more popular again as most of the battles in the Hobbit are small (which could be played as SBG) apart from the Battle of Five Armies (which could be played as WOTR). As for the trilogy in 3-D, although this will increase the popularity of LOTR again, I don't personally like the idea. 3-D movies are the big thing these days (well, in the UK), but I don't really like them as they focus to much on the graphics instead of the story. It could work though. |

when I saw the words in the main forum lotr living, I thought you were planning on doing a real SBGbattle, rather alike chess where the pieces are actual players who cooperate with the man behind them, would be fun though anyways, they're about to release a new rulebook for WotR (expansion rather) so it's not likely they will discontinue anytime soon |

Otherwise I have to spend far to much money to get enough color to paint all real players.... Thank you for all the answers. After I have been reading all the new comments it seems like I got no excuse not to go to my local gw store when it opens up next day, to get the mines of moria boxed one, so I dont just have three random boxes with no other use at the moment than finish the painting of them all. |

Actually 3rd. Fantasy pulls in more cash than LOTR. |

Wait, I thought for sure I read somewhere a while back that LotR was 2nd, ahead of Warhammer Fantasy... Unfortunately I have no documentation. |

I am 55 and have been collecting miniatures for a very long time. I have LOTR figures with 1979 dates. I have some undated figures that may be older. Unfortunately I was not playing fantasy games in the 1980s when GW had the LOTR license. I still do not have all of them. I may not even have photos of all of them. It is not much trouble to collect a few figures at a time as they come out. It will be a lot of trouble to try to get figures later if you change your mind. For example, it took me over 10 years to get the Flying Witch King on the fell beast from the 1980s. I did not get it at the time because I thought it was ugly. It is still ugly but interest change. Get the figures while you can. Don't be the old guy in 2045 looking for a figure you could have had in 2010 for lunch money. |
