After a break of about 3 years, I am relearning the rules for the SBG. Looking at it with fresh eyes, I'm really pleased with how it's standing up to the test of time - one the surface it is elegant and simple, yet has such a depth to it. It's a great game, one of the best from GW! |

I'm doing the same, and I've come to the same conclusion Alan. Try out Legends of the High Seas a sort of Pirate version of LOTR. Uses the exact same system. I'm considering trying to adapt it's points creation system for battle company sized force for LOTR. I like playing battle company style, but I don't like the ridged starting companies. Rob |

Good to see your finally returning to the One True Battle Game. Yeah, even after a mere 12 months of no LotR SBG playing looking at the rulebook was a sight for sore eyes. I've become so used to 40k that a lot of the tactics which I had adapted from SBG for 40k use I am now having to re-adapt to suit the Strategy Battle Game. Unfortunately I wont be able to get back into it fully until early June, after my exams are over and done with. |

SBG is my one and only passion. Theres just something about it. It's such a flexible and versatile game system. Rules are easy to learn, tactics hard to master. |

I've been playing mostly WotR since it came out mostly because my local group is really enjoying the scale, but have had a couple recent SBG games and I must say it's my favorite system by far. It works very smooth with an emphasis on tactics / play style vs. army list / combos for victory (though I haven't looked at any of the new Profiles that have come out as part of WotR so I can't say if they borked something with one of these). I am always glad to see such interest in it still and really hope that the release of the Hobbit will spark the market for skirmish-scale games and keep SBG on GW's radar. |

I was never really much of a player, even when the game was at its height. That's something I'm hoping to remedy now - I have made contact with a couple of gaming clubs and hope to spend a few Sunday afternoons playing the game and really learning the tactics. There's a tournament in June that I'd like to enter, but I am not sure about the public humiliation that will inevitably occur so I might wait to get a few more games under my belt before committing to that level of competition. Besides, I need two 800pt armies (one good and one evil) to enter and I only have enough models painted for an evil army (Isengard). |

So you'll have to get painting then. I've never really been a fan of the GW run tournament circuit myself. But I think you'll have a lot of fun with SBG with a decent club. |

I can muster around 1200 points, which is more than I need for the tourney (800 points). (yay) But I also need to have a Good army, so I'll try and build up enough Rohan to crack that limit. |

The host of Erol the Young? Or Hammerhand with Gondor allies? |

Glad that you've seen the light, Alan. As you know, I've been away from most things LotR for ages too - tragic, but I simply haven't the tables handy to play on. I might try getting some games in myself soon, and reentering the world of Middle Earth. It's far too good an SBG to stay away from. Enjoy. |

I'm just coming back as well. I guess all the buzz about The Hobbit (plus the models being 20% off of the prices they were before the last hike doesn't hurt!) has brought out the Tolkeinite in me with a vengeance! I've picked up a few blisters of Dwarves, some Numenoreans, Dunedain, Lurtz and Grishnakh, SKoDA on foot, Axemen of Lossarnach and the Escape From Orthanc all for 20%-60% less than 2009's MSRRP. Hard to believe it was nearly 10 years ago that I walked by the window display at the GW shop in my local mall and saw the Fellowship looking back at me. |
