it also came with some rubble, the tomb and some pillars and such. i looked in the big book it came with that had scenarios and I though it was kind of boring with no landscape so I bought a foam board. i already have some grass flock, sand, gravel flack stuff, as well as more sand, some static grass, a bag of lichen and some dirt stuff from modding my heroscapes a while back.just one question: where should i start? do I paint it first then flock over it like with the heroscapes or vice versa? thanks.

I usually glue sand/ballast on before I undercoat the model. The undercoat helps really seal the sand onto the board and I've never had any of it fall off with day-to-day handling of the terrain.

I agree!

Base the terrain with sand/gravel and then paint the base coat. This will ensure that the basing material stays on the terrain piece.

Once the piece is painted and done you could add the static grass/flock/lichen etc.

Have a look at the latest ruin I made to get the idea: http://www.blog.warofthering.eu

Yep, PVA glue FTW.

You might want to mix it with water to make it easier to "paint" onto the terrain piece.

alright thanks for all the answers so far. one last question, if I want to make a stream should i cut into the foam board and add the water effect stuff or is that going to make the board less stable and therefore easier to break?

It is already thin.1/4 inch is already weak. I would think so. I use MDFB with water effects.
If you don't have many tools I am going to recommend colored foam sheets. cut them out with scissors and glue green flocking to the sides.PVA will work but I would recommend the flexible stretchable product in the photo.

If you want to use a water effects product I would cut the river from 1/8 MDFB and glue that to 1/8 hard board. You will need sand paper and a jig saw.
