Hello,
I havent played lotr for about 5 years but I have been watching over the hobby whilst playing 40k. I however decided I would like to start it up again but have found myself really confused. I want to start an army with bolg and some hunter orcs, but do I need the full rulebook for this or will the EFGT small one suffice?

Help would be gladly appreciated,

Thanks!

The full rulebook asit has the hunter orc, etc. profiles in and efgt does not.

It totally depends what you want out of it model-wise. Either way you're looking at an outset of a rulebook at around £40, the EfgT boxed set is about £64 which means for an extra £24 you're missing out a few of the Hunter Orc rules as Elrond said above but getting the scenery, Thorin's Company and Goblin Town force. It sounds like you might be better off with the hardback rulebook and the models you need. Afterall, new boxed set in November we hope!

I suspect that the November boxed Desolation of Smaug will be Elves and Spiders, but hopefully we will see a mount gundabad orc set, which will make an appropriate body guard (as in the book) for Bolg.

It includes profiles for a few more basic units such as the Trolls and that but no points values, those are included on a separate A4 leaflet type thing but only for the figures in the box.

This all sounds so much more complex, I only had one small book when I played last time :L

Actually there are no pints values on the leaflet either! But you could get away with using the Hardback rule back, but would suffer from a lack of knowing thy enemy!
