Post subject:  Hello all!

Hello all. I visited a gamesworkshop out of curiosity and ended up buying some knights of minas tirith and a load of paint just to indulge my modelling obsession! I've nearly finished painting them and have been watching videos on the game itself and really want to get involved. How would I go about learning how to play and getting involved in games. Thanks!!

Hi Red, you mentioned you had watched some videos already but I would check out the video the GBHL guys made for beginners if you haven't already. Copy and paste this into Youtube - The Hobbit Strategy Battle Game Tutorial "A Beginners Battle Report".

Hi yeah it was the gbhl guys I watched I think I'm getting a grip on how things work but I suppose the best way to learn is to play! I'm going to my local GW in a couple of days for more models (suggestions appreciated) so will ask about these beginner days and go from there.

What neck of the woods do you live in mate? If you're in Perth Australia by any chance we're always looking for new people to fold into the ranks!

Well, If you've decided on Minas Tirith I would definitely suggest getting Cirion & Madril. They're both good heroes to have and you can pick them up for £12 at GW.

I wouldn't say I decided on minas tirith I just picked the knights up cause I'm a modeller at heart and liked the look of them. It was only out of curios to looked up the game side of things and now really want to get playing lol. Are minas tirith troops a good place to start cause if yes then I may aswell stick with them.

I would always suggest going for what you like the look of most, if you're going to be painted and playing with these models you want something that you like the look of. Minas Tirith's strength is it's flexibility and good defense.

If you have Knights get some Foot models for when they get knocked off their horses.
Faramir is a great leader and not too costly even maxed out with wargear, then theres lots of cheap heroes for Gondor. Beregond, Damrod etc, Get some High defence models Fountain Court gusrd are awesome

I would recommend purchasing the Hobbit Battle Game. It is fantastic value for money, will give you a good selection of evil and good characters, as well as scenery and the rule book. You can pick them up second hand on Ebay for around £40-50 or but I would even say the £75 from the GW store is great value

Right well I've bought the warriors of minas tirith and aragorn (the black gate) as my hero and got a game penciled in on Thursday at a GW store so we will see how they do. I have seen the hobbit set and think that May be my next perchase

Welcome to the hobby red!
Sounds like GW are treating you well, but a lot of use ebay aswell to grab second hand models and ones that are not for sale anymore. You'll find that Warriors of Minas Tirith are cheap as chips on Ebay so look out for some deals.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_trksi ... &_from=R40

I'd reccomend trying to get a Mini Rulebook from there, unless you want to spend £50 on the big one. :P
You'll also need the 'Kingdoms of Men' sourcebook, as that has all the stats for the Minas Tirith Faction, aswell as Fiefdom's, Numenor, Arnor and Rohasn if you choose to expand that way (though the guys at GW will probably also tell you this).

Let us know how you get on buddy! :)
