New to the hobby and wondering what is the difference between the big rulebook compared to the mini rulebook.

The big one has extra hobby content (painting and modelling) and backstory. It also has all the profiles for models from the first Hobbit film.

The mini one just has rules (all of them), but no profiles or hobby stuff.
However, the profiles are available for free here.

Personally I'd try to get a mini-rulebook off ebay if you can, or buy Escape from Goblin Town if you want the models that come with it. Its alot easier to carry around aswell.

Hope that helps. :)

If you the cash id buy the big hobbit book 1st it as most the stats in and index really helped me decide what was worth getting. Not to mention the hobbit rules are laid out in it to. Then when you know what army you want. Buy the sourcebook for that faction. Faction sourcebooks have all the ability's magic things like that. Hope this helps. Support your hobbit hobby.

The other thing in the big rulebook are the scenarios from An Unexpected Journey (that was why I wanted the big rulebook).
