Post subject:  International Customs Fees (INTERNATIONAL TRADERS READ!)

Parcels being sent from Europe to the rest of the world and vice versa are often subject to customs fees.

These fees are liable to be paid by the receiver of the goods and not the sender.

The customs charges are worked out as a percentage of the value marked on the parcel by the sender. To keep the fees to a minimum senders can mark the value of the parcel down to below £20 GBP or the equivalent $30 USD but please note you do so at your own risk. If parcels are lost in the post you are only covered to the value that is marked on the parcel.

If you receive a parcel through an international trade and it has attracted a customs fee which you deem too much to make the trade worthwhile you simply need to do nothing besides contact your trade partner and advise them of the fee and that the parcel will be returned to them automatically by the relevant post authority. You may need to make arrangement for any sent goods to be returned to yourself. Communication with your trade partner is the key here.

Under no circumstances should the sender offer any sort of compensation for trade items attracting customs fees. It is something that is beyond their control and if the receiver doesn't like it, allow the parcel to be returned to sender.

There seems to be no set percentage that these customs fees are worked out at. After doing some research trying to obtain the exact % that the fees are worked out it seems that they are worked out at a percentage of the total value marked on the parcel ranging from 0% up to 85% so as you can see it is quite a broad range.

Any problems feel free to PM me.
