Hello all,

Here's a few question I'm pondering.

1) Can you shoot over the should of a friend in combat? ex: One RoR is in cambat, can a second shoot over his shoulder at an otherwise valid target?

2) Mumak rules state "If an enemy wins priority and charges the Mumak, it can pin the Mumak in place...". Is "wins priority and" part of the rule or an example? Do a heroic moves count or must you legitimately win priority?

3) I see some debate (possibly old debate) saying that the Mumak is a siege target. The book states "... the Mumak and the howdah itself are considered to be separate battlefield targets and may be targeted freely..." I don't see anything in the errata either so where is the ambiguity in that? I'm not trying to sounds condescending towards those saying it is a siege target, I just legitimately don't understand the issues here, please explain!

Thanks in advance!

1. I would say no, at least if you are shooting "through" the combat. It might depend on the situation. It has at least been FAQ'd that evil models may not use the "over the shoulder" rule to shoot into the combat of the model it is in base contact with.

2. I think that is just an example, but then you might meet people who interpret the rules as written, not rules as intended.

3. I haven't realized this before, but the mumak rules states (as you say) that all three are battlefield targets. But under the siege rules in the main rulebook it states that the Mumak is indeed a Siege target. I think the main book overrides the rules in the sourcebooks. This still makes the howdah and any crew battlefield targets though.

2 as long as you engage the mumak first it cannot move...i e pinned regardless of moving or heroic moving
3 in the hobbit rule book it clearly states mumakil are siege targets

Alright, so the Mumak is a siege target. I'm guessing this means the Howdah and Mumak itself are separate siege targets? Or do we follow the horse/rider pattern here?

Also I noticed that any battlefield targets that take a wound from a siege engine die outright. So a Troll Chieftain can get killed automatically via an Avenger Bolt Thrower?

Fallen Realms book states the howdah and crew are battlefield targets, and indeed that all three (howdah, crew, mumak) are seperate targets. The hobbit rulebook only states the Mumak itself as a siege target, it makes no mention of howdah or crew.

That is what I had always thought, and I'm betting it applies to all siege bows / ballistas. Siege rules in the hobbit rulebook seem to have been simplified, and in some cases oversimplified, imho.

Anyways, thanks everyone for your replies and keep your stick on the ice!

Well I've been playing my Mordor siege bow incorrectly for a loooong time then. I haven't done much looking into siege rules since about 07 or 08. Thanks again, folks. It would have taken me quite some time to come to these conclusions on my own, if I even got them right!

Cheers!
