We were playing a game at the weekend where models were staying 0.5" from a barrier to stop anybody crossing the barrier or fighting them. As they were not touching the barrier and defending it, we couldn't attack them over the barrier. There was not enough room for a base on the other side of the barrier, so couldn't cross the barrier either. It was a walled field full of grey company who just stood and shot the Uruks until they were dead. Does anyone know a way to counter this? |

I believe if the "defender" is not in base contact with the wall, you could just take a jump test and get on the wall. You will be in combat (you have moved within 1" of the enemy's control zone, therefore they must fight.) You will probably take high casualties from the GC as they will move back and shoot you once you get out of combat... |

Great idea, I never thought about standing on the wall. Just checked the rules and I'd also then get the advantage of defending an elevated position |

I think you wouldn't get to be defending as you're the attacker, if he attacks you standing on the wal you woud be defending |

This is normally called cheating, or the very least bad sportsmanship, to deliberately exploit a loophole in the rules. The defenders have two options, move up to the wall and defend or pull 1" back or a punch in the nose - 3 options then |

Did he roll "in the way" for the wall? If he's not right at it, he can't just shoot through it. |

you should just lie in front of the wall, he can't see you so he can't shoot |

I wouldn't say this is a loophole in the rules as It would work in real life (loosely) I mean if a guy is standing just back from a wall you could run up to defend it but if he didn't attack I wouldn't jump over to get him as then he would kill me when I'm off balance instead I would stand on top to fight or just wait until my buddies flanked him. |

Find someone to play with who actually wants to play! Combat is an essential part of the game. Ok, Uruks vs. Grey Company may not be the best match up but abusing the rules like that to amplify his advantages and nullify yours is very poor sportsmanship indeed. |

sorry I don't understand that. the whole point of the game is to try and win( I assume) so is it considered bad sportsmanship if you're using pikes with uruk's because that's an advantage for them? No sportsmanship depends on how you treat the other player above the table, but what happens on the table can be totally different. |

I don't play competitively much, so maybe I miss out the point of the game. The OP didn't state one way or another what kind of game it was, but I assume it wasn't a GT tournament. In my mind, it IS bending the rules. Not breaking them, but still using a grey area to your advantage. Can the Uruks climb on top of the wall and have the "defending the high ground" benefit? Sure, if the other guy can do what he's doing then why not? Don't be so sure that winning is the only objective. If all I wanted to do is beat my opponent, I'd bring a bat to every game |

It was only a friendly game, but the same thing did happen to me at the GT. |

Don't forget about under the table too. Kick them at every available opportunity if they are being a git. |

I like the catapult idea, all those def 4 people standing in a bunch....... Still, I have great fun with my grey company by shooting until I can get to combat! As for the question of what to do, I'd attack the gate in the wall, it makes sence that there would be one, lol. Meanwhile your str4 crossbows on def 5 Uruk-Hai could cause some damage (not to mention a little sourcerous blast...) |
