Does it make sense to keep dwarf ranger with throwing weapons behind a shieldwall? Do you know any other tactics for dwarfs beside these http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/conte ... Id=4400012 ?

i'm not a big fan of dwarf rangers but yes the throwing weopons behind your shield wall is a great tactic.

i prefer iron guard behind my shield wall. then when the lines meet my shield wall shield's (gives me two attacks to compete spear supported enemies) and ties up the enemies front line, while my IG head towards the flanks. The IG have the two attacks and do the damage while my shields hold the line.

If you have some rangers with bows and some others with throwing axes all you need is some nice big patches of rough terrain for some great fun.

You can back off half your move through the rough terrain and still be out-moving your opponent due to not having any movement penalty. This means you can keep shooting if they want to advance on your position. With a row of Iron Guard in there as well it's even more fun, throwing axes have no movement penalty, so they can keep up as a front line between your archers and the enemy and uses their axes if the enemy gets close.

If you can engage them still in the rough terrain you can then circle around them at a higher speed. This works well if you have an objective in the rough terrain or if they need to kill you. The longer range of the dwarf longbows helps here too, to "encourage" the enemy to attack you.

I also recommend throwing axes behind shields. It's almost always best as a dwarf player to have a banner there too, especially against spear wielding enemies.

However, most of my games are scenarios with objectives, which plays out often VERY different to just a "kill 'em all" type game. So I also find Vault Wardens great for holding objectives, not just for blocking passages.

But remember, you can only throw axes in the move phase when you are going to charge the target, other wise you'll have to throw them in the shoot phase.
