Post subject: | Facing Sauron with the Last Alliance |
Hi there, on Farmers Giles of Ham's suggestion i've created this topic for hints about beating Sauron by using high elves and numenorian men only. Each side employs about 1000 points and the evil army is composed by orcs, mordor trolls, warg riders and Sauron of course. Since i've chosen the good side, i'm kinda desperate 'cause i should kill the dark lord Could you please give me any suggestion about the composition of my army and also some tactics? Thanks to all! |

Hmmm... this will be tough if you're only using Numenorians. I'd try and just feed Sauron a guy every turn and then at the end try and surround him with a lot of heroes, wait for the dice to go your way (he only has 3 attacks so only 1/2 chance that he'll get a six) and inflict as much damage as possible. Perhaps ally in Gil-galad? Also, if you surf back in this forum you'll see quite a lot of these kinds of threads. Might be worth giving them a look as they have some good tips. |

Yeah, I'd suggest Gil-Galad. His Fight is the same as Sauron's, IIRC, so it would co to a 50-50 roll. And also pile on a bunch of other heros for good measure. |

Yes, just make sure you alwayts have enough troops surrounsing Gil-Galad to help him because some will always fail their courage tests. Use Narsil to leap-frog (Elendil = Free heroic combat) combats every turn and get the minions out of the way. Apart from that you will just have to wait until Sauron rolls low and try to do your best to keep your heroes from harm...be sure to tell us how it goes. |

You just want to be careful you don't surround him with too many guys otherwise he'll just sweep his mace around and kill over half of them. |

I would suggest Rumil as well. Not sure if he live during the war of the Last Alliance but still he can counter Sauron very well with his special rule. Gil-Galad+Rumil= deadly combo... |

Gil-Galad+Rumil= deadly combo... Not the most thematic combo in the world, though. |

gil galad is the best counter, but the other player knows this and can hide behind orcs and use spells to kill off gil galad.... |

DON'T TRUST NUMENOREANS. they always let me down without fail, even though they should be just as good against goblins in combat as elves. use them to bravely charge aginst sauron, one at a time. it serves them right for replacing elf spearmen in the last alliance boxed set. as has been said, use lots of heroes. numenoreans suck, but at least they have cheap(er than elves) captains. also, use two handed weapon elves. don't use archers against sauron, because they won't achieve anything. |

Thanks again!! So, what i need is feeding sauron with numenoreans, try to separate him from the bunch of orcs and hit him hard using gilgalad... the problem is... what if the elven king dies? Is there a B-plan? |

i'm afraid not, other than hope he rolls badly or jump on his sauron model. battles with a mega tough power model always result in a prolonged 'last man standing' combat, so its basically whether he gets unulucky before you run out of models. or, if you're opponent is lenient, you could ally in a bat swarm or two, on the grounds that they were an ancient and proud race of firstborn bats with numenoean blood who had sworn an oath to Elendil. they would halve his fight value so you would win drawn fights, allowing you to kill sauron to death quite easily. |

Again, if your opponent is lenient, you could ally in Rumil, who forces the enemy to reroll sixes rolled. I just fought against my friend's balrog, and by the end, I had Gandalf, Aragorn, and Rumil still standing... he was intimidated into forfeit. |
