Well, I'm looking for some nice gondor army, and thought of the following: Faramir with heavy armor, horse, shield and lance 12 Citadel Guards with bows&spears Denethor 12 Warriors of Minas Tirith with spears Beregond 11 Guards of the Fountain Court with shields Option 2: Faramir with horse, lance and shield 8 Citadel Guards with bows&spears 4 Warriors of Minas Tirith with spears Captain of Minas Tirith 12 Guards of the Fountain Court with shields Gwaihir Which list is better (my main opponents are High Elves, Wood Elves, Moria and Isengard)? |

you will need Boromir of the white tower, although expensive he packs an extremely deadly punch and has an extremely useful 6 might. |

drop faramirs horse unless you are taking knights. he is asking to be killed if he is solo on horse. and yes, boromir of the white tower packs a punch against most things but he does need troops around him to give him support. Even the best die sometimes. What size games do you usually play? |

5-700 points, against elves, uruks and moria armies. I'd like to keep the eagle, as I've never played with good without using him to kill enemy cavalry, they're awesome at that job. |

its personal preference what you use. an easier way to deal with cavalry, (i find) is to just form a shield wall with spear support and pikes if you have them. And considering you have Fountain guard, there isnt evil cavalry that is F4 that the armies you play have access to. I'd say your top list is better. Deploy the FG first line, CG second line and shoot the cav as it comes towards you. Use the normal spears to protect your flank. |

Okay, I'll start calculating: Wood elves are def 3 and strenght 3 Uruks are def 5-6 and strength 4 Goblins are def 4-5 and strength 3 High Elves are def 5-6 and strength 3 I'll hit wood elves on a 4+, and they'll hit both Minas tirith warriors and fountain guards (all with shields) on a 6+. They'll win the fights on draws. I'll hit uruks on a 5 or 6, and they'll hit my minas tiriths on a 5+, but the fountain guards on a 6+. It's either contest with GotFC or a win for them with the normal ones on a draw I'll hit the goblins on a 5+, and they'll hit both my Minas tiriths and Fountain guards on a 6+. I'll win the fights I'll hit the High Elves on a 5 or 6+, and they'll hit both my MT warriors and GotFC on a 6+. They'll win fights So, that means I should use GotFC only against uruks, as they're the only enemies with a contestable fight and S4. Isn't it better to just take D6 troops? |

You always want to take your best troops, the more 6's your opponent has the roll, the better. If you're playing elves (why?) then use numbers to your advantage, get more dice in the fight than your opponent. Easier to roll higher with more dice. Yes, you may lose draw fights but everything does to elves, thats why they are good. Isengard are tough to play against, but the shield wall i previously mentioned works every time. |
