Hi, I will be buying some metal Dwarven Warriors and I was thinking since they looks different than the plastic ones I can use them as the upgraded unit Iron Hill Veterans but I don't really fancy buying Murin and Drar. From that I started thinking would it unbalance the game in any way if all the optional upgraded troops where normal troops? In other words I am thinking of house ruling that you don't need a specific hero to upgrade a number of troops. You can take the upgraded troops just as if they were a different option and their point cost would be the base cost plus the cost listed for the optional upgrade.
What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Constantine :pippin:

Well the reason(as I see it) for having to take a certain hero to get the upgrade was to serve as a kind of tax for being able to upgrade the troops. Also to emforce fluff a little me thinks. But anyway I think that using this house rule would be pretty fun, but maybe do a Little play testing to make sure everything remains balanced. :)

If you want to keep some fluff, Dain might be a good alternate required hero, since he came from the Iron Hills himself.

Thanks for your replies. I was thinking of making the optional troops of all armies separate entries. If anything, it would add more variety.
Dwarven upgraded troops per se are rather stupid and show a lack of attention from the side of the developers.
